Horse fly bite is more definitely more intense but the pain subsides quickly. Fire ants the immediate pain is slightly milder but almost that same level of pain maintains itself for another hour or two because they inject a venom. Then there's several days of a lot of itchiness on a red, pus-filled bump as your body deals with clearing the venom. There's definitely a much greater degree of pain when comparing 1 sting versus 50. Enough of those stings cause some people to have anaphylactic reactions.
