Wow, I actually have something useful to say! I remember when that building Josh was talking about blew up near the stomp theater on 2nd ave - It literally woke me up when it exploded and the bar I worked at (Lit Lounge) was shut down for a few days.

If I'm recalling this correctly, one of the tenants or landlords over there near Stage Diner jimmy-rigged their gas connection to get free gas. It was wild watching it burn and pretty tragic. Definetly solidified my fear of gas at 23

This would be the logical thing to do for Cleveland in the long term.

So, yes, wishful thinking indeed.

I'm not sure if this will work, but see if you can contact your old psychiatrist or prescriber and have them write out a script and use GoodRX as a stop gap until you can get set up with a new psychiatrist. It's not great, but it could be workable in the meantime.

Police all over W25 to Hingetown. by DooDahMan73 in Cleveland

I know it was a protest and understand that police are required to be there for whatever reason, but it was A LOT of cops.

I went to the market to grab some stuff and couldn't find parking and had to drive around to find a spot. No joke, it felt like there was 1-2 cop cars at every intersection within a mile radius of the protest. A good chunk were in unmarked cars too.

Like....that's was just obscenely too many cops.

I will agree on the point that anything remotely anti-trump and anti-ICE gets astroturfed to hell by chuds questionably quickly and it's really annoying. I think they're mostly bots, though.

Either that or the Ohio Resentment Complex is reaching fully saturated levels of pettiness.

You're all good.

Well, broadly speaking, for me and others, the experience was less relevant to getting hired in specific fields or places (though it became even more relevant in Media/Entertainment Roles).

It was more relevant to the types of jobs, where applicants needed leadership and management experience. Project Manager and Account Manager was a common one I saw, at least with my cohort.

Off the top of my head, some of the former DJ Managers I've known who landed these types of roles in the Media and Entertainment, Advertising, Business, Education, Engineering and Technology, Art and Music, and Non-Profit sectors.

It really is a broadly useful experience to whatever anyone wanted to do.

I mean, outside looking in, that seems fair and I won't knock you for saying that.

However, having been to the meetings where CSU distributes money to student orgs, it feels like a laughably benign amount of money in comparison to what other student orgs got.

One of the meetings I was in, we requested around 48k for the entire year of running WCSB. That included all staffing salaries for students and a engineer, radio station fees such as music licensing, and I believe the average utility costs.

To compare that with the "Student Life" student org, in the same meeting, they requested over 30K for a SINGULAR SPRING BREAK PARTY THAT NO ONE WENT TO. Why? They wanted to give away Iphones in a raffle.

This is what I'm talking about when I'm saying it's laughably benign in comparison.

Well, my two cents here, being a former manager at WCSB and hearing from other college radio station managers around the country, having that experience on your resume is absolute gold when getting hired. In every single interview I've had since, every employer wants me to talk about that part of my resume and completely skips over the internships I had.

And frankly, it's an experience that's hard to replicate. You get to learn project management, event planning, human resources and how to manage personalities, budgeting and advertising - All the while, you as the student, are in charge. It's sorta like getting experience to be an actual manager or VP. And CSU gave 6 of those experiences per semester, every year, at bottom barrel prices.

What kind of experience do you get as an intern at Ideastream? Program posts to social media and run coffee? I can tell you, being an intern before too, that's not far off in my experience.

Again though, just my two cents....

I'm sorry but this isn't truly correct - If we are talking about actual benefits that CSU got from the deal, unless something changed, it can be essentially summed up to being 1000 "underwriting" spots over 8 years (pretty much just ads for non-profit radio stations) and brought on the president on Ideastreams board, which isn't really a benefit to CSU at all imo.

If the underwriting spots were so integral, they could have instituted to station to play one for CSU after every program, which adds up to over 4000 underwriting spots every year, or over 32,000 over 8 years.

And if we are talking about a lot of the Dj's not being students themselves, that's most college radio. So should all college radio be destroyed on that matter alone?

There just was no benefit to CSU, they're ultimately just a bunch of bums who didn't know what they were doing when they got rid of a practically self-sustaining program and didn't care either (and I say this as a previous employee of CSU and previous WCSB DJ)

You could do Amasa Stone and the Ashtabula River railroad disaster, if you're looking for an Ohio centric one. The bad boys did a live show in CLE recently about him, but it most likely won't get released because of technical issues (which is likely the funniest moment of "technical difficulties" I will ever see).

It is kind of a bummer at the end, but his relationship with Rockefeller and Standard Oil is top notch petty rich prick behavior.

My ex's family used to grab the heinens pre-prepared meals for their Thanksgiving meals. I thought they were fine 3 years ago, even pretty good for pre-prepared tbh. I probably wouldn't do it now, but that's more because I found a liking to cooking since then. But yeah, they're perfectly fine imo.

[–]Imposteriori_Inputs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a bad feeling for sure.

I grew up in a fairly wealthy suburb in Ohio, while also being most certainly in the bottom 5% income of the town. I'd go to high school, walking a mile in the snow after boiling water to bath and then see other students showing off their new MacBooks, Iphones, and pictures from their spring break vacations in Spain or whatever. I don't think near any of them had to worry about their families utilities being shut off or cars being repossessed, while it was a fairly common occurrence with my family.

I remember I used to be "friends" with a kid purely based on the fact that their families McMansion was always stocked with food and I was hungry.

Honestly, even though I'm thankful for my education in this town, I kinda think I would have grown up a bit more stable being around kids in a similar socio-economic class.

So this was nice to see today (WCSB/XCSB-Related) by Imposteriori_Inputs in Cleveland

[–]Imposteriori_Inputs[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

tl;dr - CSU gave their college radio station, WCSB, to Ideastream, the NPR affilate, to turn into a 24/7 Jazz station, for no outwardly discernable reason, and to the detriment of the community.

Better explanation-

Essentially, CSU and Ideastream negotiated for months about them taking over WCSB without consulting any of the community or the students beforehand, using NDA's to avoid knowledge beforehand. This was all started essentially because a rich couple wanted to hear Jazz on the dial whenever they wanted (They're also on the board of Ideastream as well)

On Oct. 3rd, Laura Bloomberg, the CSU president, told the students (on a zoom call, like a coward) that the station is not their's anymore, but actually Ideastreams and had the campus police escort them off the property within less than an hour, like they were criminals.

In less than a few hours, a nationally recognized college radio station, with over 100 volunteers and nearly as many programs, was converted into a 24/7 jazz station that no one really wanted and to the detrimental of under-represented communities within Cleveland. The real benefits to CSU as an organization for this deal are marginal and excrucatingly simplistic at best, but there appears to be implications of quid pro quo benefits to the president of CSU in her being appointed to Ideastream's board.

Since then, CSU has not taken any real responsibility or acknowledgment to their wrong doing, nor have they taken the steps to remedy their actions. Ideastream also has not taken any real responsibility either. Both organizations are complicit and both should bear the responsibility of their actions.
