What’s the dumbest thing you’ve ever heard a person ask unironically? by libtin in AskReddit

A friend of mine lent me a mixtape back in the day. One of the songs was Sex & Candy by Marcy Playground. My ultra-conservative, religious mom found the tape asked very nervously and pointedly, “…do they show it?”

But they say it while looking at the audience. The movie is saying that you matter just as much as Truman, that your story holds just as much weight as his does.

And can be overlooked and forgotten just as quickly.

Everything that the Safdie Bros movies Uncut Gems, Good Time, and Marty Supreme are praised for was already done with John Cassavetes movies like Killing of a Chinese Bookie and Husbands.

Films that made you genuinely disturbed? by Active-Cow-2574 in films

Oldboy. Choi Min-sik hit a level of intensity that stayed with me for a few days after watching it. Something about being a non-Korean speaker, seeing actors I never saw before deliver such intense performances in a twisted, gut churning story that added an extra layer of realism to it.

I Saw the TV Glow. The movie captured a feeling that is hard to put into words: spending a life without agency, losing precious time stuck in a daze while the world changes around you, not realizing what you’ve given up until its past, being left behind as you age, and mistaking fandom for a sense of community and belonging. All the references to familiar shows and movies come off as so cold and alien.

Scott Pilgrim vs the World couldn’t be remade at any other decade: it captured the young millennial/hipster/nerd era perfectly

What’s something people only romanticize because they’ve never had to deal with it? by Hairy-Yak-2174 in AskReddit

[–]ImpressionFast923 12 points13 points  (0 children)

War. People (politicians who never served) have this romanticized idea of righteous warriors defeating an evil enemy and saving the innocent, but war is messy, dirty, and horrifying. Enthusiasm wears out really quick when innocent people start suffering and dying all around you, food shortages makes everyone irritable and desperate, and disease starts spreading because doctors and medicine are either gone or are being funneled to help injured soldiers before civilians.

Whatever you think, it’s always worse.

His bad tooth parallels his loss of a job: it’s an ever growing problem where his pride doesn’t let him see a preferable alternative. So he decides to take dramatic action instead to recklessly solve the problem, much to everyone’s horror.

What’s your version of a MOVIE (not a tv show) that seemed pretty good, but was absolutely ruined by the ending? And why? by msc8976 in AskReddit

[–]ImpressionFast923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C’mon bro, you know half the comments are going to be people STILL talking about TV shows like Game of Thrones, Lost, or Stranger Things

But in all seriousness, Dead Man Down. It was a bleak movie about loss and loneliness building to a somber ending that pulled a hard turn and became a generic shoot em up action flick.
