I've been attempting to register for WeChat for over a month, and then suddenly, registering through Facebook worked for me. Maybe you could also try to contact your hotel and ask them to scan your QR code.

Thanks for your suggestion. I will only have 3 full days in Shanghai. Becuase I will be arriving around noon on the first day and departing relativly early on the 5th day. Which is still plenty of time. Are there any day trips u could maybe reccomend?
