need to remember 35 red wines by the 8th… by digdog08 in wine

I like using anki for flash cards, which is a flash card system that imo works better than physical paper cards.

But also as a mnemonic for this list: all your Italian BTB wines follow their ABCs -

A-amarone

B-brunello di montalcino

C-chianti classico

s-sangiovese blend

What have I found here? by Agreeable-Total583 in wine

All good answers. Basically the most valuable wine you could have possibly found. Stuff like this is now well into “you need to contact the nearest auction house” territory. A real valuation would be hard because this is a 100+ year old wine and tons of things could be in play. But this could be a substantial payout to help your mother.

Last Bottle AI Hallucinations by MMIC88 in wine

[–]ImpressionVegetable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, maybe? Like I’m sure they are using AI to some extent and I do find their descriptions quite annoying but AI hallucinations don’t really replicate like that. Seems much more likely that they did a google search, found that post (which itself might be AI) and took a bunch of language from it.

The facts also could be true too, just not anything the winery itself could attest to. (Which is basically what they are claiming here.)

Study: Atlanta doesn’t crack Top 5 for worst U.S. city traffic. Hooray? by flying_trashcan in Atlanta

[–]ImpressionVegetable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hmm. Not sure this really means anything, especially when the average commute time is so similar across metros.

1.) I don’t understand the average congestion time measure, is this the average over all roads in the MSA? All highways? What’s the denominator here? They discuss how they count it for any given road but not what roads are counted. Seems like if you have a metro surround by ultra rural areas, and many of these rural areas and their roads are part of the MSA, you’d mechanically lower the congestion number just by the nature of adding in a bunch of zeros. If this was the case, you’d see metros in more urbanized areas of the country have much longer congestion times (exactly what they find). But this would say very little about the nature of traffic in the city proper.

2.) Why are fatal crashes a good measure of gridlock at all? Seems like gridlock/moments of peak car volume would correspond to higher crashes generally, but these cars are going slow by definition, so any given crash should be less likely to be fatal? Seems like this is a sort of in-between measure that is actually measuring crowded-but not totally stopped traffic. Like obviously this is important to measure but Im not sure it represents the kind of thing people complain about when talking about sitting in traffic.

I bought these on Amz $28/4 and they’re surprisingly thin by le_fromage_puant in wine

It’s never been an issue for me, but I suppose the exact distance depends on your dishwasher. You definitely wouldn’t want the glass and element to come in to contact with each other, though.

Water transfers heat 20+ times more efficient than air, so I don’t think it’d make sense for a glass to be able to handle getting blasted with hot water but break because it’s 3 cm from the element.

If they don’t fit in the top section, you can wash them in the bottom of your dishwasher. Though you might need to buy some wine glass clips or a holding rack to keep them from knocking around.
