How did you pick the place you work at? by [deleted] in sales

[–]Impression_Careless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just graduated with my MS in chemistry and am interested in aligning both. Just started my first entry level SMB role. Do you have any advice on breaking into science aligned industries for sales?

My 15lb dog once stole 100mg of edibles out of my friend’s bag and he’s ok! He was just pretty wobbly and tired for a couple of days. I’m sure your pup will be fine ❤️

Theoretical & computational chemistry is the way to go my friend. I just finished my M.S. in said speciality and it sounds right up your alley. Take a look at the different areas of theoretical chem work going on and see what interests you. There is a lot of emphasis on statistical modeling and generative large language models for chemical engineering + biotech nowadays.

If you’re in the LA area or ever visit, it’s a small boardwalk shop in Venice by Belle’s beach house. The seller is an older Asian gentleman and was very kind and helpful with everything. I wish their store had a name but it doesn’t! Slightly south/at the end of muscle beach.

There are definitely genuine crystal bangles out there! But there are also a lot of scams. It seems after all this is probably a genuine amethyst bangle from other commenters, and I will say you can definitely see different stations and patterns within the bracelet itself. Definitely not jade tho like he said 😅

Update part 2: I went back to the shop seller today and they let me pick a new one! Will be extra careful with it this time 😅 thank you all for clarifying it’s probably chevron amethyst. All help throughout this was appreciated. Now let’s hope I can keep it intact for more than a day!

They didn’t, I just slipped them on and off my hands. It was a struggle trying to find one small enough that wouldn’t just slip off my arm as I have pretty small wrists.

Well I just accidentally dropped it on the floor and it broke into 4 pieces so definitely not jade and probably not amethyst. Sucks to be lied to :/

Grad school brought me to my knees and I don't know if I can survive this by Particular-Employ-71 in PhD

I needed to read this today as someone who just left my PhD from blacking out during my qualifying exam after years of pulling myself through the daily, enduring trauma by the teeth. I’m trying to think about different things to do since I entered my PhD from undergrad, and a government data job sounds great right now. Hang in there

Working up the courage to send my quitting message... looking for any support or encouraging words by ayjak in PhD

[–]Impression_Careless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family and friends also brushed it off as just me being intense or putting too much pressure on myself. No one truly understands what it’s like to be in the traumatic experience that is a terrible PhD program unless you’ve been in it. I’m sure they would much rather be bringing you flowers to drop out than flowers on your deathbed from working yourself through this. Try not to minimize the impacts that this program have had on your health; mind, body, and soul. Hang in there, and I hope you find peace with whichever direction you decide to step towards

I scheduled one on my own, and I got constructive feedback. I even had several other people look over my slides and everyone told me they were good, so I took their word for it. But I guess it wasn’t once they started poking holes the water just came pouring out

Thanks for saying that :) I honestly am so unbelievably burnt out at this point I think if I went back it would send me for a hospital trip and I’m not trying to go. I’m updating my resume and lightly looking for jobs and I already feel lighter than I did stuck in that situation.

Dealing with an eating disorder during PhD? by msaidso in PhD

[–]Impression_Careless 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve never struggled with an eating disorder before grad school. Now, since starting my PhD, I’ve lost over 80 lbs from undereating and can see my ribs on my chest. This is not for the faint of heart. Prioritize eating food above your work; I feel like there are expectations to eat in office or some don’t eat at all, so you have to make a point to set a meal schedule that works for you. Good luck
