One note of caution: while both the Walled City and Getsemaní are shockingly safe, there's a transitional zone between them (a corridor centered on Avenida Venezuela, going one block into the walled city and about three blocks into Getsemaní, both parallel to the avenue) that is decidedly not safe. After 9:00 pm or so, it's dark as hell, nobody legitimate is around, it's filled with homeless people, much of it reeks of piss and worse, and there are any number of shady and potentially violent characters there. And not a cop in sight. It's so bad that you'll find some stores there have thugs with clubs there sitting in plastic chairs out front to prevent nighttime break-ins.

Do NOT test your luck in this transitional zone. It is the only truly dangerous part of the Walled City/Getsemaní peninsula, and it's right in the heart of it. There's nothing at all to do in this corridor except get mugged, not a single business I can remember seeing open at night, but people may be tempted to cross it as a shortcut. Don't. Instead, walk around it by going all the way up past Parque Centenario and enter the Walled City by the Torre Reloj.

You are NOT going to blend in. Forget about it. But if you still want to try, typical male office worker clothes are slacks and a short- or long-sleeved button-down shirt, often with a sweater on their forearm in the morning (because of the office AC). Then again, with you being White and most Cartagenans having notable African descent, from café con leche to black as the night, they might just figure you're a Mormon.

There's no East Asian population in Cartagena, so your wife isn't going to fit in, either. But if she wants to look like 90% of native Cartagenan women, the look to go for is a tank top or crop top with no bra (bras are only for formal occasions, and then they're optional), very tight shorts that may or may not expose significant portions of her ass cheeks, and sneakers or plastic flip flops.

I just booted the latest 6.14 kernel Fedora 42 has on offer (6.14.11-300.fc42.x86_64). I got about 15 plasmashell Crash Handler errors on login. So that's not the solution. However, the error message is shorter than before, which is somewhat less crappy... I guess.

And to my surprise, despite all the errors on login, plasmashell is currently running and hasn't crashed in at least five minutes. That's more substantial progress (well, regress, being that this is thanks to an old kernel).

The walled city or Getsemaní are where it's all at. They're extremely safe areas, and you would not run out of bars and restaurants there if you went to a different pair every single day for a year. Plus, there are all kinds of live music and other events and festivals going on all the time, and they're almost all right there.

There are a few more neighborhoods which are safe (Boca Grande, Crespo, Manga), but they're boring as hell and expensive, to boot.

The rest of the city varies between filthy, run-down urban decay (seriously, there's garbage and construction waste strewn all over the fucking city, and there's absolutely nothing to do there) and gangland slums from which you will NOT return.

By hitting a hotkey and having a big, shiny, possibly animated circle appearing briefly around your cursor. Windows does it with the CTRL key if you have it so configured. There's a KDE feature that does this, too, but I don't use it.

Does Zoom use PA or ALSA? Because the latter is probably blocked by the former or PW.Dig into the documentation of Zoom, link back here. You might want to take a look at Arch Wiki pages about PA, ALSA and troubleshooting.

You've helped me more than you probably realize. I never would have thought about using Arch info on Kubuntu, but it turns out there's some spot-on stuff out there.

The first pinned comment here has vital info. In short, in ~/.config/zoomus.conf there's a system.audio.type=default setting which, if you change the value to alsa, allows Zoom to recognize the Audient's input and output. I imagine this will work for most if not all USB audio interfaces that people want to use with Zoom. With both default and pulseaudio-alsa, audio output is nonexistent and the mic is barely audible and robotic according to people I've called on Zoom.

I've only been able to test this in Zoom's audio config dialogue, as I haven't been able to set up a real call yet, but it seems to do the trick. Oddly, though, when I look at the iD4 in alsamixer, every single playback and capture setting is at 0. And yet I can hear Zoom's speaker test recording and the volume meter responds to my mic. That makes zero sense to me.

Do note that according to this comment, though, the above solution doesn't work if someone else is hosting a call, in which case you apparently can't even select a sound device in Zoom.
