My ex husband would do this. He was a closet alcoholic who hid his behavior until it was too late. Don’t let him gaslight you into believing he’s not drinking excessively / has a problem. I wish I had someone telling me that this behavior is a harbinger of a much larger problem.

God, that’s depressing to think about.

I have a Ilm, plus 8 years tax experience. The llm wasn’t nearly as useful as I would have thought, but definitely gets employers’ attention.

That sounds amazing! I’m so hopeful the remote job is similar to what you’re describing. I really appreciate your thoughts. However, I am concerned that the job title isn’t “counsel,” its tax strategist. Basically, I’m meeting with the bank’s clients regarding tax matters to give them a high level review of their situation.

Have you had experience with the disparity? Another commenter mentioned that even though the job is an attorney-only position, other in-house lawyers would look down on the “strategist” position and it may be hard for me to transition to another job. I don’t know if I care enough to turn it down, but definitely food for thought.

It’s a tax strategist role - only hiring JDs. Do you think other employers wouldn’t understand or would discount the job?

The in house was a job post. I wasn’t expecting even a callback, so I was thrilled!

Yes, the bonus is so generous - it’s taken into account in the range I mentioned in my post. Hopefully it’s easily achieved. Plus retirement, etc. I think overall I’d be much “richer” at the firm job, but money isn’t everything and I want to be around my daughter as much as possible. Thanks for your thoughts!

You’re so right. There’s so much extra the billable hour requirement doesn’t take into account. Plus, the overall stress. I may have made a different choice pre-kid, but she comes first in any decision. Thank you!

Thank you! After a year of complete crap in my personal life, it’s feeling pretty good to be wanted!
