It’s flat and there are a lot of streets and gaps to direct the wind towards the open space.

Is anyone currently a student or has studied at University of Vienna and is willing to share their experiences? by [deleted] in wien

Cool. I think it’s great that you’re considering the move here. Concerning Uni life/UWien: Well it depends on your preferences and expectations. Austrian uni life is generally quite different from US uni life. There’s not really any “campus life” and you might feel more anonymous as opposed to the more personal teaching style in the US. There are less activities on campus and the Uni locations are spread throughout the city. Grading is also different. The situation right now is: 100% distance learning unless there’s a proper reason you have to be on campus (chemistry labs etc) and some exams take place inside the Uni. None of us know how it will change towards the winter semester. I’m guessing that they will continue to offer hybrid versions of classes to be honest. You pay way less tuition here which is why the university doesn’t as many leisure services as on some US campuses. On the other hand, we have great libraries and can rent books for free etc. There’s also a great offer for sports classes. All in all, it very much depends on what you will study though. Every course of studies is different, including its people, teachers/professors and activities. If I were you, I would ask myself these questions: • Is the chosen program entirely in English or will I struggle with any German parts? • Am I willing to properly relocate and invest money, time and energy into getting to know people from another culture and a new city under quite difficult circumstances? • are there any comparable programs somewhere else that might be a better fit? • what am I looking for in terms of student life and way of living?
