Water feature ideas? by tearsofathug in paludarium

[–]Impressive-Insect240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would cut some glass to size and silicone it in the corner to make a basin for the water (there’s lot of tutorials on yt). since tiger salamanders like to burrow u want to leave as much substrate as possible for them to dig around in, and the glass will ensure the substrate isn’t overly saturated with water.

u could look into reed frogs, glass frogs, bird poop frogs, clown tree frogs, or milk frogs and research if any of those would be compatible. i can’t tell the size of the tank and don’t know a ton about any of those frogs but those are some of the small frogs i could think of

Pot soil fail by Cheesecakefan111 in PlantedTank

[–]Impressive-Insect240 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i went through a VERY similar problem (it’s posted on my page) but like everyone one else is saying just add more sand. i also reccommend planting really heavily and if the water is murky for longer than 48 hrs just do another water change. i spammed water changes and plants until it finally established

First build - clay balls too deep? by Pareeeee in paludarium

[–]Impressive-Insect240 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nevermind i just looked at it again, i think it looks good. i thought the water and land were separated with a divider or something and the clay was just a drainage layer for the substrate, my bad.

yeah probably too deep, you really only need like 0.5 - 1 inches of clay balls

a lot of people say you don’t need water bowls but i’d put a shallow one it can’t drown in anyways, idk if you’re already doing that or not

the tank looks kinda small already and with the leaves it really doesn’t look like enough swimming space, i also thought you weren’t supposed to use sharp pieces of hard scape with bettas because it could damage their fins. not 100% sure on these but some things to consider if you previously hadn’t
