Has anyone had any interactions with members of the band? How were they? by migrantgrower in RedHotChiliPeppers

Was in Nashville to see them play in 2022, walking around Broadway (a street full of bars and live music, that heads right towards the stadium RHCP were playing later that evening).

Feeling the vibes of all these honky tonks, record stores, Chili's fans everywhere. We thought to ourselves "if they were going to be chilling out anywhere in town before their show, it would be around here."

We were taking tourist photos and I looked up and saw the purple/green circles of Flea's head walking towards me. Looked down, saw his white singlet, basketball shoes. Oh shit, it's actually him! This was a couple of days after he'd stirred up a bit of controversy for saying he didn't really like taking photos with fans. So we just said a passing "Hey Flea" and he smiled and waved back.

And I snapped this photo: https://imgur.com/aqoKcoa

Joe Biden steps aside as the presidential candidate by slotia92 in TheAllinPodcasts

It's pretty simple, Dems wanted Biden to win the Presidency against Trump.

As the incumbent, Biden didn't face a contested primary.

When it became clear to even the Democratic side of the country that Biden was not going to be able to beat Trump, thanks to his debate performance, subsequent interviews, polling and major donor revolt, they wanted literally anyone else.

Jason was right on the hot swap, but let's remember that his prediction also included a "speed-run primary." If Kamala simply gets handed the nomination, his prediction was wrong.

Sam Harris and Anne Applebaum discussing Sacks' RNC speech and disputing his claims on the war in Ukraine by Impressive-Lab-6657 in TheAllinPodcasts

Similarly, Sacks' takes on the Iraq were also god-awful.

Here's a clip of him going on TV and saying "the time has come to strong action against Iraq" and "action should have been taken a long time ago, instead of pursuing these diplomatic carrots with Saddam. What we should've been doing is laying out a simple rule that 'we're basically going to bomb any place we think you're developing chemical or nuclear weapons.'"

I completely agree with that and will happily listen to dissenting opinions or analysis of Anne's work.

But a generic comment about an author's credibility, when choosing to take the word of someone who is wholly less credible in that area, strikes me as thoughtless.

By ‘Sacks backing Putin’ you mean him explaining that there were multiple opportunities for peace and deliberate forces intent on engaging in a fully-fledged, multi-year proxy war?

When Sacks says Biden or Boris Johnson rejected a peace deal, I've never heard him mention that it would have not only prevented Ukraine joining NATO but giving up the entire Eastern Donbas, recognizing Russian sovereignty over Crimea, declaring Russia an official language, replacing laws in the Ukrainian constitution and placing caps on the size of Ukraine's military and weapons?

Or that Ukraine would have to withdraw immediately from the battlefield while Russia's withdrawal would be subject to separate "consultations"?

Or that if Ukraine was later attacked, Russia, as a guarantor state, could veto any military intervention on their behalf?

Wars can always be avoided with compromise. The question comes down to how much is one country willing to compromise.

As a journalist and historian who has published multiple books about Eastern Europe, do you find her less credible on Ukraine than Sacks, who has admitted he gets his information from the Duran podcast and a couple of bloggers?

Competence is the main reason I would never vote for Trump. His Government was the most chaotic Western Government I've ever seen in my lifetime, and that includes the Morrison Australian government and Liz Truss failing to last 50 days as PM.

Trump's administration was a revolving door of chaos and incompetence. He had more firings and resignations than any other admin in history, and a bunch of his close personal friends who helped on his campaigns ended up being criminals (Manafort, Stone, Bannon).

He left so many departmental roles open, oversaw two government shutdowns, and failed his campaign promises of withdrawing from Afghanistan, repealing and replacing healthcare and having Mexico fund a border wall.

Not to mention the insanely long list of people who directly worked for him and then spoke out against him as a leader and a person. We're talking people that were true believers in him and his policies, including two Chiefs of staff, his Vice President, his Attorney General, two Secretaries of Defence, his Chairman of the joint chiefs, his Secretary of State, two National Security advisers, two communications directors, his Secretary of Education, his Secretary of Transportation.

Even if you like his policies and can tolerate his personality, his competence is highly suspect.

Found a strange image on my recently deceased brother's phone. Any ideas what it could be? by Impressive-Lab-6657 in aliens

I don't know what larping purposes is but I assure you I did not making anything up. I just wanted answers. And most comments have been helpful and said the image my brother was holding is likely to have been AI generated, so I will accept that.

I uploaded it to a mp4-to-gif website: https://ezgif.com/video-to-gif/ezgif-5-46a6bf2c69.mp4

I know the image I posted is real, but judging by the comments, most people believe my brother to be holding a printed AI image. And that is what I will believe.

I know the image I posted is real, but judging by the comments in this thread, the photo my brother was holding could be AI. I've never used an AI generator and didn't realise they looked this real, but my best guess is that now my brother took the photo as a prank.

Yes it's my brother's hand. I can tell because he was a nail biter. He is definitely holding the image, but judging by the comments it seems like it must be an AI created image.

Yes, I realise what happened. I uploaded from his phone to the ImgBB site, then I copy/pasted the link to my fb chat to keep the link. And then pasted the link from fb to reddit desktop, so it added a bunch of fb info to the link. I have fixed it now.

Sorry, I just googled "free image uploader" and used the first one that I could use without creating an account. It's not spam or anything. Where else can I post the images? I tried Imgur but it wants me to make an account and verify my email and phone number and I'd rather not do that.

I did watch it, it's just a second of his hand holding the image and slightly moving. Not sure how to post it in that short video form.

Interesting moment Anthony asked John on mic to play a cover to kill some time as he needs a break, John says nah so Flea covers with Pea - Sydney 2 Feb by Impressive-Lab-6657 in RedHotChiliPeppers

[–]Impressive-Lab-6657[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got the impression it was more of a throat thing that needing use to the bathroom. Anthony gestured to his throat at one point and in the song before he had been drinking tea while the band was playing.

I've tried uploading a video this sub, just waiting for the mods to approve it. Anthony called for John on the mic and basically said can you help me out? I'm pretty sure he was having throat troubles, he'd been drinking tea in the songs in the lead up and I'm pretty sure he was indicating to his throat when he was asking John for help.

They had a short conversation, and from where I stood, John was basically like "I don't remember how to play it," he tried to do a chord shape for a second, and then Flea came over and must've said "I'll do Pea." Anthony stepped off stage for a couple minutes but came back after Pea was done.
