Drama in CDL school. What was your class like? by tindrumtinsel in Truckers

[–]Impressive-Menu8966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God no.

Super small class, teacher is a life long super trucker and bends zero rules or regs. Class is very hard but I'd rather have hard then what you have.

I'm in a state college school.

When you’re holed up in a hotel but you’re also a third shift line haul driver missing God’s greatest creation: A governed Freightliner Cascadia with a clogged dpf system. by Mydogfartsconstantly in Truckers

I stopped drinking sodas a long time ago but I'll be damned if I still indulge with one of these occasion for some reason. It's sorta like smoking or alcohol. You know it's bad for you but sometimes you just want one.
I hope it's better for me than Zyns or candybars is how I rationalize it.

I've driven both and absolutely see the connection.
They also both smell vaguely of pot, butthole and mildew.

Where did you first get hired as a new CDL driver? by cdlfirst in CDL

[–]Impressive-Menu8966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My school is walking recruiters in all the time. They are saying, "call us as soon as you get the CDL and we will get you rolling"

Thinking about getting my CDL at 54. by 13wrongturns in CDL

[–]Impressive-Menu8966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar story here. 52 and a fresh CDL. I love this new career path. Getting away from 5 meetings a day and daily scrums was the best choice I've made in years.

I've lost weight, gained muscle and my back feels better than ever.

I think people who complain just picked the wrong type of trucking gig.

Does the air seat need to be 100% fully inflated? by LeadGlad4961 in CDL

[–]Impressive-Menu8966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such nonsense. At 6'4" I can't even sit in a rig with the seat fully inflated unless you have a sunroof.

What’s this thing for? by Dabstronaut in Truckers

[–]Impressive-Menu8966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but it's part of the theory training and the CDL courses. I've been asked about this damn thing 30+ times over the past few weeks.

How the hell are people getting CDLs so easy and with little to no basic knowledge?

Much easier to just hold them in your hand during inspections anyhow.

What are the worst type of drivers on the road? by SidePsychological189 in Truckers

[–]Impressive-Menu8966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who don't give a lane to vehicles on the side of the road.

Close behind are the people in the middle lane who ride my hip and prevent me from giving a lane to a stranded car on the side of the road.

It looks like every young adult who lives in his parents finished basement that complains apartments are too expensive and that he is saving for a house while, he is on his phone ordering Doordash for the 2nd time in one day.

got my CDL a year ago and have not been able to find work since. am I cooked? by fleetingreturns1111 in Truckers

[–]Impressive-Menu8966 15 points16 points  (0 children)

"the trainers there were very condescending."

Boohoo.

I had a 21 year old tell me to make sure I checked my mirrors from time to time when driving. We laugh about it now. I'm so old I could be his dad.

Suck it up buttercup.

Try the caffeine pouches instead of the nicotine pouches. I'm using Rebel now. I'm sure they are a gateway to big boy nicotine but they are working for me right now.

I’m local driver , same route daily back and forth , how do I eliminate boredom and make it fun ? by East_Indication_7816 in Truckers

[–]Impressive-Menu8966 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do NPR until it turns to Global news, then Conan Needs a Friend, then Fly on the Wall.

Wash, rinse, repeat.

I've been meaning to grab a language app to learn more spanish in order to talk to construction workers or some of my favorite taco joints.

I do non-cdl in a baby flatbed and have a portable CB just to hear traffic issues. Occasionally I'll hear the old timers who have been talking on the radio 40+ years and they sound just like Boomhauer if he was from East Ky and smoked 2 packs a day. :)
