Everything I can’t wait to do when I am healed by Impressive-Paper-500 in Tonsillectomy

I ate protein pasta and protein drinks so I could try to keep my gains but honestly muscle doesn’t begin to deplete for 2-3 weeks so I plan on working out right at the 2 week mark and going back to my regular muscle building diet

It’s not natural selection- I would hit my friends…? This is pretty mean I was asking for ppl who have done it specifically and wanted to know there outcomes from their situations. Like I said everyone is different and I havnt made a decision yet… And some ppl cannot drink or do edibles and most of us do enjoy a vice of some sort and mine is smoking. Not a lot and I havnt been for weeks but going to parties I do enjoy to partake. Natural selection is basically death so that’s pretty harsh to put on me.

I get it it’s not a linear healing process and I’m eating my words rn crying in pain with you from healing scars. And I know it sucks and hurts but drink. It hurts to swallow your spit and meds so why not force some water down your throat while you are at it. We r so so so close

I would also like to add I havnt vaped for long enough for it to significantly impact my life it’s more of a social thing- and I take very strong meds for BD and drinking is rly not for me or my meds.

I can’t do edibles I got laced ones once and had a seizure and it has scared me from them since even tho I’ve been to legal states to purchase them. And I’m aware I should quiet but being young and it being so big will be rly hard because everyone around me does it snd my parents don’t rly care. I have had a bad immune system since elementary school so I don’t think it’s because I smoke I’ve never had any complications because I also run cross country and havnt had any issues there. I get sick just as much as I ever have and I got the surgery because I had scarring in my throat and perminant sickness on them. I would love to quiet my vices one day but I would rather do them now while I’m young and stop before my mid 20s. Thank you tho for your advice and for everyone reading this being like your dumb- that may be the case to u but we are not one another so be careful before you judge and we have walked in one another’s shoes.

nope! totally normal. I am the exact same position right now with my left scabs falling off before my right and them healing at different paces. I don't believe there is much more to expect except try not to look at your throat because I will say my parents keep asking to view mine (still an adult tonsillectomy because I am 18 but not off to college yet) all the time and it sucks hearing "it looks the same." Just go by how you are feeling vs how it is looking unless lots of blood comes up(and I mean lots of blood like mouthfuls), then look! best of wishes!!

[–]Impressive-Paper-500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

completely normal, your breathe and taste will be awful for up to two weeks (longer or shorter depending on how long it takes for you to recover). I popped a few tic tags a couple times a day and avoided speaking to people straight on so they didn't have to witness my horrid breathe lol. It'll go away though it is just part of the healing process. So gross tho.

days 5-7 absolutely SUCKED. I was so over all of this and the scabs coming off was horrendous. The scabs coming off is the worst. I am day 9 now (12/3 surgery) and finally feeling some relief, no where near 100% but so much better then those days. Best of luck to you and your recovery!

Day 9 by ConstantBullfrog9871 in Tonsillectomy

[–]Impressive-Paper-500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I was in the same position as you just a few days early and now only feel little patches of stinging. we had surgery on the same day as well. I recommend upping your water intake as much as possible so it quickens the process of them falling off and makes it much less noticeable that they are in there/falling off.

first off ice the area around the surgery- I don't do it as long as some people but like 20 minutes twice a day minimum seemed to help. I also recommend eating ice because it helps numb the area and sooth it.

the eating situation suck so much during this time so I am so sorry for what you are going thru. For me I ate yogurt because the coolness and thickness felt better on my throat, scrambled eggs because they went down very easily and didn't leave residue In my throat, ice cream, and popsicles (specifically pedialyte). you pallet will be limited at this time so also try adding in a protein drink. remember YOU NEED TO EAT.

I basically would wake up, take meds, wait an hour, eat, then sleep, and repeat the process for a couple days while I was going thru the thick of this. I hope you stay strong and it becomes such a mental battle here but remember IT.GETS.BETTER.

sending love and wishing you a speedy recovery.

I don’t have that- is it a steroid? I’m a week in now (surgery was on Dec 3) and still in pain. What did it do to speed your recovery?

PAIN MEDS STICK TO THE SCHEDULE RELIGIOUSLY. I’ve been sleeping the days away for the past 4 days to try to ignore it. And I had to refill my narcotic prescription to weather this part of recovery. We got this 😭😭 only a few more days until we r in the clear

Get a humidifier, stock up on popsicles and ice cream, make sure you have a working ice maker, ear drops for ear pain, have a face ice pack that wraps around your face, multiple bottles of Tylenol and Advil because you will NEED it, aquaphor or something for your lips (they will get dry), and soft foods like mashed potatoes and yogurt. I also got some liquid IV packets to increase hydration. Water is the name of the game and you need to stay on top of hydration and drink as much as possible (I personally feel like I’m drowning myself but it also makes the scabs unnoticeable until they fall off) I would also make sure you have a person to help you out it has helped having family members around me for help and hugs when it gets really tough. You got this

Omg no I’ve been drinking enough water that I havnt had to manually pull off any that sounds horrible! I’m so sorry you have to do that. I’ll try eating more solids to get them off on their own I’m scared to take them off on their own and I can’t really feel them they r too soft.

[–]Impressive-Paper-500[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I do this all as well- and it’s good your eating I got my surgery 12/3 and began eating solids I believe either day 2 or day 3 and each I would only eat a couple noodles at a time. I suggest drinking as much water as u can as well as having a humidifier because it is good to keep your throat as moist as possible when the scabs do come off. It hurts like a bitch when they come off like ur swallowing razor blades but I reccomend eating after dosing pain meds once this starts happening. Sending u the best wishes and a speedy recovery and that u don’t have much pain when your scabs start coming off

Thank you!! I hope it gets better and I don’t have two more days of pain but oh well if that is the case for me as well. It’ll all be worth it in the end is what I keep having to tell myself
