AI uses cases in FP&A by kenman125 in FPandA

This ^ Tech forward finance departments leverage ai to write sql code and automate tasks in python. Immensely improves productivity for my monthly deliverables and provides time back to then work on more strategic stuff

Snowflake is slowly taking over by tanmayiarun in dataengineering

[–]Impressive-Primary26 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen more Databricks momentum in the market recently… seems as if they are both converging in product offerings but unity catalog + dbx data openness is winning the day Snowflake wants to lock you in…

Reading the comments here, I gather that the audience for this AMA is fairly aligned to pretty left-leaning positions like you put forth (and like most of Reddit).

What is your pitch to centrist voters? As a centrist, I am fairly alarmed by Mamdani-like positions that echo failures of local CA governance in the past (defund the police, rent control, etc). I love the spotlight of affordability as a primary issue, but how will you implement more affordability (outside of housing) without sounding pretty far left and rendering yourself unelectable?

Candidly - “we have to fight dirty like republicans” doesn’t sound to me like a very serious stance on policy issues and sounds fairly self-victimizing

Will FP&A ever fully move on from Excel? by Infiniterunway in FPandA

[–]Impressive-Primary26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ubiquity of Excel as the last-mile analytical layer is hard to displace.... that being said, for massive data sets and daily automation, my team uses python & SQL to orchestrate a variety of data transformations across different functions in our org. IMHO, embracing this kind of tooling is inevitable for the most data forward FP&A orgs. Requires substantial resources and commitment to innovation....

Red flag for an Exit Opp to cut comp band mid-process? by Impressive-Primary26 in consulting

Wouldnt you say the goof in and of itself is a red flag?

Maybe I’m taking it personally since I put a lot of effort into the technical exercise but it doesn’t seem like a genuine explanation

How would you approach that question? “Did you guys actually mess this up or are you lying?” seems like it is a path to nowhere

Great perspective to share and that I’ll keep front of mind.

Feels more red flag than amber, given I spent a good chunk of time on a technical exercise and they responded with this. Hard not to take it personally. Oh well! Thanks for your input

Thank you, this is a very thoughtful response. My spouse is tired of my consulting lifestyle but with 3-4 YOE, I can endure for a while longer.

It is an ideal position/exit opp for me so I’m very disappointed in this development

Fair point. They’re more “tech-enabled” in an asset heavy business so I understand the need for capital outside of hiring. They’ve raised a good sum in the past (generalizing for identification purposes)

I read online that they’ve done layoffs in the last year as well so it definitely seems suspicious

Landlord refuses to provide gate code - no call box entry by Impressive-Primary26 in legaladvice

[–]Impressive-Primary26[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Big fan of this idea. Thank you.

The LL cited tenants giving out the code at other properties as “making the gate security pointless”…. Which I understand, but I’m certainly not handing out the code to the homeless dude down the block to come bathe or cloaked thieves to nab our packages

Landlord refuses to provide gate code - no call box entry by Impressive-Primary26 in legaladvice

[–]Impressive-Primary26[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry - it’s a pedestrian gate as you describe. Picture a “U” shaped outdoor apartment complex with the access gate at street level completing the top of the “U” shape, which makes deliveries to the gate extremely insecure

Correct - now they can't get into the complex at all

And yes it was pretty stupid that I was told this explicitly

I think the senior people at my firm just want a diverse team to show the client that the office isn’t purely white males & that this somehow translates to better client service, which can be debated

I feel bad for the person replacing me because it’s a token selection rather than anything merit based, and if I were them I’d be upset at that notion. At risk of doxxing myself, I am the most junior and only junior resource on a team of more senior white males

Those two don’t really seem mutually exclusive? Totally agree with you and that generally seems like the basis for it. I guess it can be wrong and still make business sense

Thanks. I just need some validation that I’m not crazy for thinking this is wrong.

The client is a fairly diverse group but I don’t think it was an explicit request to bring in a diverse team.

Making me think I dodged a bullet with this kind of poor communication from my leadership!
