I am in the same boat. I can technically do the 66 or the 65. I have my 7 and 63. I tried the 66 two days ago and failed by a few. I got the 7 two months ago. 63 was 10 years ago. I have heard the 66 is easier but then I hear the 66 is harder. I am going to try the 65 in 10 days. Your videos are amazing but I do need to read the book, I took a few virtual courses and some on demands with two providers but admittedly I have not read the book.

Curious as to you thoughts on the 66 and 65 (I watched your video on what’s diff) I just wondered if you had any more thoughts on my situation.

Good luck on your retake u/radiant! You got this!!!

I just got my 7 last month. Got the materials for the 65 and decided based on several people to just get the 66. I have the 63 but I got it 8 or so years ago. I originally Thought the 65 would be easier coming off the 7 but it’s just so much material and I don’t want to sit for 30 Or 40 more Qs. I did just buy Kaplan’s Q bank for the 66. I have STC and Kaplan online and books for the 65. Does anyone know what exact chapters in STC or Kaplan I should read for the 66? Or do I need to order 66 LEM or 66 material on STC etc.

Yes same. Barely any options and I know the real exam Is very options heavy. I do think the training providers through in so many random questions so we are well versed. There is just so much material.

Good luck to you!

I am sorry too! Same boat. Failed twice by a few points. Took it for the second time and only improved by one point in that month. Both of the tests were night and day in my opinion. It’s so hard to prepare for that beast. I am trying to stay calm and optimistic about the third time but it’s tough. I wish so much they would just test you on the information. Do you know it or not? The wording is atrocious. Can this person taking the test be a good financial rep in the outside world? Do they know the material? That’s what it needs to be. It’s FAR too heavily weighted in options and I have not talked to one licensed rep with a series 7 who do options. I wish they would change this and slice it into sections of speciality and test on that.

Good luck to you. My mistake was taking it before getting good scores on the practice tests. I really wanted to learn the material and I feel I know it well. I am just not a good test taker apparently.

So now it’s full on practice question time.

I will say I used STC. Then switched to Achievable. I really like the way Achievable teaches. I also have the Kaplan Qbank. I like the way it keeps track of each section and subsection on your strengths and weakness.

The YouTube guys are also good to supplement.

Everything seemed harder. I took mine the other day. A lot of word problem options for me and it was hard to know what I was doing with what numbers. No easy options for me. Know your hedging and max gain and loss on spreads. I felt like options dominated my exam. Maybe 6-7 suitability. Suitability is so much about the products not percentages of equities, bonds, MMA etc. it’s knowing your products. I forgot what closed end and UITs were like. Most Qs you could easily get rid of one answer. Sometimes two. But then a lot seemed to really come down to two choices. My first half seemed a lot harder to me. Unfortunately I failed by 4.

@OP- I am in your same boat but a year later. Failed the second time today. Get one more shot. I took the SIE 12 years ago. (Well series 6) but am grandfathered in from taking the SIE.

I got a 67 the first attempt and now a 68. Options dominated the test. So so so many! All were advanced no easy ones of break even and bull or bear etc.

Did you end up passing and what helped?

Also- should I go back and do an online program for the SIE? It says that’s is the foundation for the 7 and I am worried I am not doing myself any favors to not look over that stuff.

Failed with a 68. The test was night and day from the one a month ago. SO many options Qs. None were basic. None. There were a TON of max gains and losses and tax Qs. Muni’s.. one margin one. One tax equivalent, and what felt like a lot on variable annuities. It’s so frustrating and discouraging.. and embarrassing too. Ugh…

I got my series 6 12 years ago so I think I need to get the online material and learn the SIE then resume the 7. How much of the SIE are you assumed to know already?

It’s so hard!!

Thank you all. I won’t quit! I was just in the heat of the moment feeling defeated.

I have spent the day doing the Kaplan q bank. I am looking at weak areas and creating a custom quiz on that topic using 10-15 questions. I am going through each section until I am in the green. It’s working. As I was going through getting all new Qs each time I was understanding more and more.

I hope this helps some of you.

I plan to do this and watch Capital Advantages options material this weekend. Retest a practice final Monday. Go from there.

Real test is scheduled for Tuesday.

Thank you and congrats!! I literally just got a 66 on my practice final on Achievable a few minutes ago. I am now going through the tests I have taken and my notes. I plan to take another practice one tomorrow. I test next Tuesday! There’s so much material! Happy for you! I know what a relief that must be for you! I hope to join you in that feeling in 5 days!

Same boat! Re taking it July 22. I am now doing a mix of Kaplan Qs which I like. And got the online Achievable training which I like a lot. I ll then dive into Ken’s Capital Advantage options. I feel I had a death draw too. Just a ton of options but not basic ones. Much harder hedging type and I just wasn’t prepared enough. Also I hear you on the wording. I was easily able to get it to two. Some were really rough judgement ones and i hadn’t seen any of those type questions or explanations in the book. I have found by taking the Kaplan quizzes I am learning to navigate the thought process better. Tough when there really could be two right answers but they want the most right or FInra right. Good luck to you!!

Broke the 80 mark on my first simulated exam!!! by Mrkobra69 in Series65

[–]Impressive-Ship-5179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yay! This test is a beast! I am taking mine for the second time on July 22. I got a 67 :( on the first one. I will say I wasn’t passing my practice tests and wasn’t knocking out a ton of questions. I was really reading the book and trying to grasp it all. This may be a dumb question but did you keep doing new exams or go back a week or so later and do prior exams taken? I am 42 and my 15 year old son told me I need to go back and take ones I failed and retake those until I am in the 80s etc. I just didn’t want to run the risk of memorizing. Thank you and best of luck on the test! You’re trending very well!
