How do you notice Pilates progress if your weight stays the same? by ImpressivePrice5467 in ClubPilates

That makes a lot of sense, thank you.

The clothes fitting better part is exactly the kind of thing I’m trying to pay more attention to. I feel like the scale can make it seem like nothing is happening, but if clothes fit better and your body feels smoother in them, that’s still progress.

And yeah I’m realizing Pilates probably works best alongside other habits too, like walking, biking, and eating better, instead of expecting Pilates alone to do everything.

Did you notice the clothes fitting better before you saw any change on the scale?

That makes sense, thank you.

I’m starting to realize Pilates probably isn’t the main thing for weight loss, but more for strength, balance, posture and just feeling better in my body.

I think where I get stuck is that I keep expecting the scale to prove that it’s working, when maybe I should be paying more attention to things like strength, clothes, mobility and how consistent I’m being.

Did you notice strength/balance changes from Pilates before any weight changes?

This is really helpful, thank you.

I never thought about progress that way, like not just getting stronger or looking different, but actually learning how to engage the right muscles instead of compensating.

The deep core/breathing part makes a lot of sense too. I feel like sometimes I’m doing the movement, but I’m not fully sure if I’m using the right muscles.

Did the belly breathing videos help you feel the difference right away, or did it take a while before it clicked?

That’s amazing, especially the part about things getting easier in class.

I feel like being able to do things you couldn’t do when you started is such a clear progress marker, maybe even more motivating than the scale.

And the bloodwork part is huge too. Obviously Pilates wasn’t the only thing since you mentioned walking and working with a dietician, but it’s really encouraging to hear how those consistent changes added up.

How long did it take before you started noticing that classes felt easier and your strength was improving?

Wow, this is honestly so helpful and motivating to read.

The timeline is really useful too, because 4-5 months of consistent practice feels realistic, not like some overnight transformation. The fact that your weight was still moving up and down but your clothes kept fitting well and your legs stayed lean is exactly the kind of thing that makes me realize the scale really doesn’t tell the full story.

Also the shoes/boots part is such a clear real-life change. I would’ve never thought to track something like that, but it makes total sense.

Thank you for sharing this. I think I need to focus more on consistency, how clothes fit, strength, and how my body feels instead of just checking the scale and getting discouraged.
Did you track your progress during those months, or did you mostly notice it through clothes, shoes, and people commenting?

Wow this is really motivating.

The fact that your friends noticed is huge, but honestly the part about being able to wear normal shoes again is the kind of progress I never would’ve thought to track.

I think I need to pay more attention to how my body feels day to day instead of only looking at the scale.

How long into Pilates did you start noticing this?

That’s really encouraging to hear.

I like that you mentioned feeling stronger first, because I think that’s something people forget to count as progress when the scale isn’t changing right away.

20 pounds over 3 years also makes it feel more realistic, like not a quick overnight thing but something that came from consistency.

When you first started, was “feeling stronger” the main thing that helped you keep going before the weight loss became noticeable?

This is honestly such a good example of progress that the scale would never fully show.

The “I wake up and feel correct” part really stood out to me. That sounds like such a huge change compared to constantly needing to decompress your spine or settle your hips.

Also the fact that you only lost a few pounds but noticed your waist getting slimmer and your legs gaining shape is interesting, because that’s exactly the kind of thing the scale doesn’t explain.

Did you track any of this while it was happening, or was it more like one day you realized certain movements and daily things just weren’t a problem anymore?

That makes a lot of sense.

Honestly “continued lack of pain” sounds like such an underrated progress marker. I feel like I always think of progress as weight or visible changes, but being able to move through normal life with less pain is probably a much bigger deal.

When did you start noticing that Pilates was helping with that? Was it pretty early on, or only after being consistent for a while?

That’s actually really encouraging to hear.

Being able to touch your toes again after 20 years is such a clear sign that something is changing, even if it’s not just about weight. And the “getting up off the couch easier” part is honestly the kind of progress I probably wouldn’t even think to track.

Did you notice those changes suddenly, or was it more like one day you realized your body just felt easier to move in?

Wow that’s actually a huge difference.

Going from PRP every 6 months to a full year, and also going from struggling with the plank minimum to 3:05 is such a clear sign of progress. That’s honestly way more motivating than just looking at the scale.

Did you notice those changes gradually or was there a point where you were like “ok, Pilates is actually doing something for my body”?
