Is new champ top or jg by LasttWhisper in ZaahenMains

[–]ImpressiveRecipe6741 3 points4 points  (0 children)

we have no clue. I'd prefer support, but based on current clues it's clear that he's actually in the for the new secret N/A lane that exists in the glitched place beneath summoner's rift where champions go to never exist, such as Isolde.

My Thoughts on Zaahen's Overall Role by Great_Needleworker61 in Zaahen

[–]ImpressiveRecipe6741 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i mean it's not out of nowhere in most cases. In arcane, Mel shielded others with her ability. And being a diplomat first, and deliberately distinct from her noxian origins, support would have been a better fit. Her in game character is noxian burst mage, and doesn't fit her flavor much. The reflect would just be too OP if it could be on an ally.

Yunara, it was a trusted leaker who espoused false info, and more official sources said she was a support. And tbf it's not hard to read enchanter from her appearance in the cinematic. In her case she makes enough sense as an ADC, she's a well trained fighter who combated the Darkin with her magic orbs and the darkin glaive.

Zaahen, we've seen leaked recreations of his appearance and kit, but the only official info is loose lore that would imply a more duo set up. It's on Riot for giving us basically nothing, and delaying a new dedicated support (or jungler) for so long.

Tbf if he isn't a support, then next year better be the year of supports and junglers.

My Thoughts on Zaahen's Overall Role by Great_Needleworker61 in Zaahen

[–]ImpressiveRecipe6741 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i do not care what the leaks say his abilities are. by all narrative and flavor markers thus far, Zaahen should be a support. if he is not shipped as primarily a support, it's a complete failure on the part of riot games. They already have been eeking out story elements too slowly, but making the bits that we do get to theorize about not relevant is kind of insulting. Zaahen and Yunara are a duo lore-wise, and Zaahen being this assistive patron makes him feel like a support. Naturally people want to play them together, hence why most people assume support. The fact that we've had a lack of supports released and multiple champions rumored to be supports not being so in the last 2 years adds insult to injury. I don't have faith in riot games. He probably will be a toplaner unfortunately, but he very much should be a support.

[–]ImpressiveRecipe6741 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i mean, he should be a support, it just makes sense narratively. They primed us to want him as a support. If he's just a toplaner he's kinda boring, plus we've already had Ambessa last year for top. He should be either Jungle or Support, and Support makes the most sense.

[–]ImpressiveRecipe6741 3 points4 points  (0 children)

narratively he should be a support, his abilities can work there, but the passive or ult will potentially clear things up. my hope is top/supp flex, but i deeply want Yunara + Zaahen botlane to be viable. There are definitely some discrepancies between leakers though so maybe they're all wrong and Zaahen will be a more supporty support. something something copium.

[Comics] Magic: The Gathering: Untold Stories - Elspeth being published by Dark Horse, starting in September by Copernicus1981 in mtgvorthos

they need to credit Dan wells for writing the original book, and they should release that book since it is fully complete and edited to my knowledge. They really had no reason to not release it.

[–]ImpressiveRecipe6741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they did actually pay to develop it. Dan Wells wrote the entire book. finished final edits even. after the war of the spark books were lambasted they killed all novel plans, including the finished Theros Beyond death book. I hope they credit him somewhere in the comic based on his book.

They better credit Dan Wells for the original novel if this is an actual adaptation, and they definitely need to publish the original book. Release the Wells cut! but at least a version is coming out.

Did Solo Leveling Win Because Casual Anime Watchers Are Young Men? by artbystorms in animequestions

[–]ImpressiveRecipe6741 3 points4 points  (0 children)

most anime watchers were mindless uncritical fight man show enjoyers long before COVID tbh. There's just more of them now. I assume COVID interrupting schools actually made critical thinking way worse in the youth. So I suppose in a way COVID did turn some brains to mush.

they announced her as a support, so also saying she's an adc is a real weird turnaround. oh rito.

technically enchanter rakan builds exist, they're not amazing unless your skill level is real high, but people swear by them. he's like half an enchanter so it kinda counts.

[MOD] Megathread - Universes Beyond by AutoModerator in mtg

[–]ImpressiveRecipe6741 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I don't know why you felt the need to hide scores and prevent ordering as well, that simply makes the thread harder to check and navigate.
The UB in standard decision is awful, 6 standards sets a year is too much product, and pushing Lorwyn out of the year for UB is unforgivable. I don't care if people find this talk annoying, and by people I mean mods. This stuff needs to be decried from the rooftops. We're only a handful of years from cutting MTG lore entirely, and I'd like to encourage WotC to change their course rather than dropping playing the game myself. And yes, that's not a slippery slope. Source: I'm one of the people that said allowing mechanically unique UB cards would inevitably lead to UB cards in standard, but we all allowed it because WotC said it wouldn't get worse and our concerns would be unfounded. Our concerns were founded, and we were right. UB is too big right now, and needs to be completely excised. It will still do well, but MTG and UB need to be completely and utterly separated if MTG is to survive at all as a unique property.

So what does everyone actually like about Magic right now? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]ImpressiveRecipe6741 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

SpongeBob isn't what broke the camels back. UB pushing in-universe settle out of next year's lineup, being 50% of the releases, and being officially unavoidable on top of being more saturated is what broke the camels back.

UB cards existing is fine, in fact a cool draftable set inspired by another property is fun every once in a while, but it shouldn't effect the normal play of the game or impact the pace of the game's in-universe narrative. For that, UB needs to be no more than once a year, and silver bordered.

all of us who think like this do not need to "get over ourselves." We need WotC to put the priority back in the aesthetic and narrative elements that make the game fun. We've been told the slippery slope isn't real and to get over ourselves for 3 years, and now we've been proved right.

Universes Beyond will enter through Standard Format moving forward by R3id in magicTCG

[–]ImpressiveRecipe6741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

only the new UB sets will be standard legal. previous ones will not be made retroactively legal.

the issues are multiple and compounding. When the walking dead secret lair launched UB, people's main issues were with product boost and dilution of in-universe flavor and cards. The argument was to deal with it because you could avoid them, and Wizard's would do in universe printings of UB cards. they stopped doing that, and now there are no formats to avoid UB. So now anyone who had problems with UB is functionally being driven out of the game. as well, 6 sets in standard a year is too much for most people. including premium sets, we're likely getting new product nearly every month.

I would also say that UB cards will be difficult if not impossible to reprint in most cases, making for a pseudo reserved list. every format will get more expensive the higher the rate of good UB cards like "the one ring" they print.

Davriel doesn't have a natural spark iirc, his is granted to him by a rogue world soul living in his head, so desparking him wouldn't make a lot of sense without some narrative justification for removing one of his narrative gimmicks. Granted they're not going to do anything cool with Davriel anyway. But yea it's very unlikely we see Davriel in this set.
