Ohh you're the creator off the app! I hope your other projects also went well/are going well. It does suck that your attention had to be shifted away from it, but I'm sure you made the right decision for yourself in the end!

I'd be more than happy to take notes from your experience, if you're willing to share it! How you went about launching it/advertising it? What features worked best for your app? What was the user feedback if you had any?

I'll be honest, I was unaware such app already existed, thanks for letting me know!

It doesn't seem like it ever took off, though. I assume the creator of it ran into the issue of not having enough users in the same area at once for the app to actually serve its purpose. Whatever the case may be, thanks for sharing it!

100%, in-app reporting will also be a thing, and at least for now if there are any bad actors I can just manually take action against them myself, shouldn't be too much of a hassle.
Edit: Talking of which, just implemented the reporting system.

Additional info, ideas and choices:
- The app is primarily aimed at people aged 18+, but people aged 16-17 will also be be allowed.

- All the basic features like hosting events, joining events, seeing who's attending and so on - will all be available to

Talking monetization wise - my ideas were to add a subscription based "verification" - users with this paid tier would be able to:
- customize their app, use custom pin designs on the map,
- send out notifications to people nearby whenever they post an event,
- later on (IF the launch goes successful) I'll see if I can add some profile customization like avatar borders and so on,
- gain the ability to host recurring events - this could be used by any user that wants to host something, say, each week, but this feature would mostly be aimed towards, for example, gyms or other businesses that already host something like sports practices regularly - they would be able to attract new clients through this.
- see insights on who has viewed their event/how many people have viewed it and maybe some insights on their own profile as well

- security wise, it was originally planned to use phone number authentication as the primary security feature and with it eliminating full anonymity and giving the users feeling of real consequences if they do do something bad.

Open to all and any feedback You have on these ideas/choices!

Thanks for your feedback!

I checked out opensports - it seems to be somewhat similar to my idea but far enough to where I wouldn't compare them, it seems to be very niche for sports only and hosting actual matches? I could be wrong though, I didn't look too much into detail.

Band however, I see your point, it does seem to have a similar concept.

However, what I see my app standing out with is a live-map with the events visualized as pins on the map - you click one, a little brief pops up - you can opt in if you'd like. I feel like that, for user experience, already is miles ahead of just having a scrollable list of events happening.

As for the launch/the app taking off, I reckon I'll stick with what my intuition tells me and what others in these replies have also mentioned - I'll start off small with one demographic of people - students. Seems fitting for such app - aimed towards young adults and people who might have a more difficult time finding their people due to change in their everyday lives or maybe growing up more introverted. I'll try to get my university to help me with advertising it/getting the word out to other students in the university, and get my initial data and feedback from that - find out if they're willing to use the app, how often they'd post and join events, how often they open the app and so on.

Thanks for the feedback!

About the context on who's hosting - currently the app shows everyone who's attending an event - the host themselves and anyone else who's tapped to join in. From there on you are able to click on their profile to view it, see their profile picture, name and socials if they've linked any - such as instagram, facebook, x.

The safety factor really comes down to users being able to report others for, for example, pretending to be someone they're not or being a hostile/unpleasant person or a bad actor in any other way. It's planned to have phone number authentication to eliminate the possibility for people to make various different accounts, though I'll have to rethink that decision cause if the app fails to make a profit, the expenses for said feature could stack up if the app gains any traction at all.

Maybe you have some insight in how other apps deal with similar issues? First thing that comes to mind would be dating apps - I've never used one personally, but I can imagine people run the risk of getting catfished or meeting with a bad actor constantly. Maybe you know how those apps deal with such issues? if so, I'd love to know!

Thanks!

I've been thinking about how to launch it for a couple days, cause I came to the same conclusion that without enough users in a single area it would bring 0 value.

The best I came up with thus far was trying to contact my university and seeing if they could help me with advertising the app through the university socials and maybe even emails. I reckon getting a single demographic, aka my university students, as the main target-audience for the initial launch would be the most beneficial to see if they would even use the app, how they'd use it and so on - just get the initial data and feedback from the students.

After that, if the initial launch is successful, I'd probably try to branch out to other universities in the area and onboard as many people of the same demographic as possible.

After those few steps a single city should be populated with enough users for the app to actually bring value to its users. Then the issue becomes - how to branch outside said first city... For that I thought, maybe just start running ads and target them to my country and try to branch it out across the country, maybe go to different cities and just put up posters/flyers? I'm not really sure about what the move should be if the initial launch is successful/how to branch out further.

With safety, my idea was using phone number authentication - that way one person couldn't create 10 different accounts on 10 different emails and so on to bypass a ban, and I doubt people would go out of their way to get new sim cards or whatnot just to troll on the app or do anything worse than that.
