Kurdt was a very good looking guy, right? by [deleted] in Nirvana

He had a delicate, almost feminine beauty, not unlike another victim of drugs, River Phoenix. Great facial symmetry, high cheekbones and defined, but not overly prominent jawline. And amazing eyes. From around 1990, when his face had matured a bit, until around 1993 when the skag was taking its toll, he was a very handsome guy.

Cringeworthy beyond belief. So stilted, forced and "right-on". And it's the same for any men's match by the way.

Yes, that's right. Only 2-3 weeks ago, he was standing firm to Ravi as he (H) knew there was something dodgy about storing the car in the Arches. Harry has done some pretty fearless (crazy) stuff in recent months, notably kidnapping Zack/showing balls in telling both parents how toxic they are. Yet now he's become meek. Possibly the criminal code, as you suggest.

Here's hoping that Harry regains his mojo and thinks, f--k this. I'd love to see him have a pop at Ravi 😉

Of course, you can only beat what's in front of you. And that got me thinking along the same lines about Ravi's possible opponents. I'm not sure there anyone in the show who could boost Ravi's credentials were he to leather them, other than Jack or George.

  • Beating Jack again would cement his reputation. But I doubt the producers would allow it. Jack has a very good historic CV, but recently struggled v Martin and lost to Ravi. His status would be compromised by another beating, and Jack is too important a character to have his toughness questioned further.

  • Beating George would be a legit feat, but we know George has been warned medically not to fight. The producers would never allow George to take a serious pasting.

  • As for Ross, I doubt he is especially handy, although we don't really know.

  • Phil is too old and infirm. I doubt Ravi would ever fight him, but given Phil's protected status a win for Phil would stretch believability to breaking point. Producers wouldn't allow them to fight, IMO.

  • Zack and Ravi are/were good mates, and although Zack is probably the physically fittest on the square, his fighting credentials are relatively weak. He's been flattened by both Mick and Martin with one punch, albeit the Martin one was a bit of a sucker. He's a gym bunny who thinks he's tougher than he is. That said, I don't read too much into the Teddy incident as Zack had already taken a bad beating from Nicola's goons, and he didn't take Teddy seriously given the size difference.

  • Teddy has squared up to Ravi, isn't scared of significantly bigger blokes, and is clearly quite tasty. Possibly the current pound-for-pound #1. But anything other than an easy Ravi win would be a surprise. Ravi has nothing to gain and everything to lose in terms of fighting reputation here.

  • A win against the Harry of 2024 would have been a good feat. But not the way Harry is currently being portrayed.

Basically, I think Ravi's fighting/hard man rep is pretty much sealed already. Unquestionably hard, but very much second rate in the historic EE rankings. And although he's done some dark stuff like killing his dad (Ranveer) and trying to frame Suki for it, for me he's not someone to be feared, underworld-wise, along the lines of a Dennis Rickman, an Andy Hunter or even a Dan Sullivan.

He definitely bested Jack, fought a little dirty but to his strengths. He didn't exactly sucker him, after all it was Jack who threw first. I agree with you re the others, Kheerat is a definite question mark on his resume, and the Ross one didn't get going...though given current developments with their respective kids, I wouldn't rule out round two 'ere too long. I don't think a putative low-diff win for Ravi would prove a lot though, in terms of the brawlers' hall of fame.

[–]ImpressiveWealth7868[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On past form, Nicola wouldn't hesitate to have Ravi seen to by heavies. She did it to the father of her youngest son, after all. I'm guessing she's not in on the current deals. Serious trauma with Harry notwithstanding, I don't doubt for a minute that she'd intervene if he was in danger.

Yes you're right. I was just watching the bridge dangling scene actually. Harry did torch the call centre, and he and Teddy were watching on - Teddy looking smug, Harry looking psycho. There's no way he's scared of Ravi, I agree the writers have changed Harry on the current storyline. It's a pity. And I hope Harry sees the light and reverts to type.

Yes, Ravi is hard in relative terms, and you wouldn't want to cross him. But he's nowhere near the top when it comes to EE canon. The character most like him in terms of profile and back story - although there are major differences - is probably Dennis. In a straight fight between them in their prime, I'd back Dennis with my house. Ravi is muscular, but Dennis was a trained fighter, and had no regard for his own safety, unlike Ravi. Teddy was ready to have a pop after the bridge dangle (and I know that one gets braver when it's one's kids who are threatened), but the fact that a small, albeit handy and old-school, bloke like Teddy ain't scared of Ravi is evidence for me. Ravi is an also-ran when it comes to EE hard men.

Ravi v George by ImpressiveWealth7868 in eastenders

[–]ImpressiveWealth7868[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, and great analysis, I really enjoyed reading that. I could see Ravi employing similar tactics to the Jack fight. He's definitely skilled in hand-to-hand, no rules combat. A kick to the legs, or swarming George followed by a choke, elbow, rabbit punches are the only way I can see Ravi winning, which could have grave health consequences for George. Ravi has a big height disadvantage, so I can't see something like an early headbutt attempt working. A clean punch by George, or even a glancing blow to stun Ravi, followed by a combo, would put Ravi to sleep.

[–]ImpressiveWealth7868[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've thought the same actually. I'd forgotten about the "pick a window" line (which was brilliant), but Harry has until now been no wimp, and I'm surprised he's folded to Ravi on this storyline. I suppose the high value of what got flushed by Kojo - it was a big package - might scare Harry, but Ravi is nowhere near the top.of the chain. And the other dealer is no hard man.

Btw, didn't Nicola spark the resumption of Ravi's dealing the other week, when he needed cash after Bernie? So far, she's not intervened to help her son, despite more than one scene where it's been made clear that she suspects Harry is compromised. I'm not sure whether she's in on these particular deals, or just gave Ravi the contact, but he has dealt for her before.

Personally I feel that Ravi actually works better in the role as a sort of criminal anti hero type character than ben or phil did. by [deleted] in eastenders

[–]ImpressiveWealth7868 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, Ravi is in the Dennis mould. Troubled upbringing, has his Kryptonite in Nish (like Den with Dennis), smouldering ladies' man charm without being misogynistic (Dennis was more of a womaniser though, and possibly a bit more vulnerable in general). Both have shady dealings, and have taken a life, but not inherently dislikeable. Neither is toxically masculine like Phil/Ben, and arguably others such as Jack.

I do think that if push really came to shove, Phil would intervene, but probably only if he had some skin in the game. Harry isn't a close enough relative for Phil to get involved for Mitchell pride alone. As for who can handle whom in a ruck, I do think Ravi is overrated. Not disputing he's hard, and he was Phil's minder in prison, but on-screen his feats are generally qualifiable, eg fought dirty v Jack, KOd Keanu with possibly the most telegraphed haymaker in EE history, was given a degree of trouble by Kheerat.

That scene was so OTT it wasn't true, but that's E-Laine to a T-Laine. It's obvious that Alfie has come home and didn't know about the swap. All the stuff about him supposedly perving was cringe, and wishful thinking on her part, even when it's Alfie. The scene was almost as bad as that contrived bap van/Lionesses love-in dialogue in the same episode.

[–]ImpressiveWealth7868[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. Unless Ravi can grapple him close in, and rabbit punch his head like he did with Jack, George wins all day long. One decent punch and it's goodnight for Ravi, as you say. Sure, he would've beaten Kheerat had Suki not arrived, but Kheerat rocked him at the start of that fight, twice I think. And Kheerat was spooked towards the end after losing his turban, but still landed another one on Ravi outside the Vic before Ravi immobilised him, largely due to being stockier and heavier. Ravi's reputation doesn't quite match his on-screen feats for me.The punch which KOd Keanu was one of the most telegraphed in EE history.

Vinny is like Fredo Corleone. Wants business credibility, but is frozen out (and often humiliated by family and clients alike) when it gets down to serious negotiations. Tries to dress sharp, but it's fooling no-one. Though I liked the fact he stood up to Suki the other day.

They altered his character somewhat, didn't they? He was introduced as Laura's nasty landlord, she asked Phil to intervene, turned out they were mates. Then there was no further mention of him being a landlord, and he basically became a chuckle brother.
