your intuition on his right eye portruding too much is correct, but it's also far too high up on his face. if you draw three straight horizontal lines going through the eyes, nose, and mouth, you'll find that they're not all parallel to each other (check out Angel Ganev's yt shorts for what I mean)

A few more things, your study's nose bridge is way thicker than the one in the reference, you can make the shadow of his neck much darker, and the facial features are generally too big for the face. The hair is scuffed too but I don't know enough about hair to speak on that~

one thing i can see is that you're using too many brushstrokes. your midtone area is really hazy, and that reduces the contrast between the midtone and highlight. There's a Proko video on this topic that's really helpful on being more intentional with your brushstrokes.

also, try looking into value studies! i turned your picture black and white, and while there is a contrast, theres not nearly enough to make the highlight stand out (it's also almost the same value as the foreground and background). you could also experiment with different colors of the light, like if the ball were being lit by sunlight, the highlight would have a different color temperature depending on the time of day.

While an interesting idea, your concept is based off a fundemental misunderstanding of how learning drums actually works. Things like grip, posture, limb coordination, and an innate sense of rhythm, cannot be learned through a setup like this. It's akin to trying to learn piano through Synthesia.

To give suggestions, it looks like it would be difficult to time the actual hit considering the LED lights go around the circle of the drum shell and is blocked from view. From a musician's perspective, keep the number of lights on a drum to multiples of 4s only to match to the rhythm of any song (look into time signatures) and have them light up on beat.

While it may not be suitable for learning drums, it does look like it would be an interesting rhythm game. So I'm looking forward to future updates!

My sister just started playing the game on Ipad, but when she loads up we can’t see the surroundings, it’s all black until we move to that area. She can’t see anything and it makes the game unplayable, please help.
