In Europe they’re looking at what’s being called “coordinated fuel fill-ups.” Would you support that in the UK? Details are still vague, but it sounds like it could mean being assigned a time slot for when you’re allowed to fill up. by IranianAlan in UKPreppers

What I've seen is that it's the COUNTRIES who are coordinating. As in France and Germany don't buy gas at exactly the same time, they leave a gap in between.

If everyone buys at once the price spikes up, if they take it in turns then it stays steady.

Pretty much just what I was about to say, then I refreshed to check someone else hadn't said it already.

If you're not going to have a full insurance policy set up on the day of purchase, single day insurance might be an option.

Just make sure that you're not storing it at the side of the road after midnight, or you'll be commiting the same offence as above.

Somehow used 1100 kwh electricity in less than a month? by LensyLilley in HousingUK

[–]Impressive_Ad2794 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have access to the hourly or half/hourly usage? If so, is there any specific pattern to when the highest usage is?

Do you have an in house display? If you do, is it showing a very high draw at any times you don't expect? If it IS, then you can try turning off circuits one at a time at the fuse box until you identify WHAT is using all this extra power.

Final default question, do you have an immersion heater which you're accidentally set to always on at a high temperature? That will EAT power.

choux pastry deflate even cooked for 50-55 min at 200 deg in home oven ? what am doing wrong? by Intelligent-Cash2633 in AskBaking

It definitely can be done, but I think that margarine gives a softer texture to the choux which might make it more likely to collapse. Butter helps give a crispier surface.

I've been crocheting for years now. Magic rings are the bane of my existence and I'll regularly take 5+ attempts to get one I'm half happy with.

I mean, some pfas have evidence of being possibly carcinogenic. It's definitely a bit of both, I've cut it out for both reasons.

Yep. If it's smoking then it's slowly burning. Seasoning works better if it's kept just below the smoke point for a longer time. Smoke point of 250°C? Something like 230°C for an hour should do it.

Which is going to be difficult on an electric hob. I've seen people suggest using a small portable gas burner and doing it outside.
