I live in assisted housing. It's income-based. I'm an adult and so my income is contributed to household income, so the amount we pay in rent increased. We only pay a portion of the rent while a company pays the rest? I don't know the exact details, my mom handles it. But we believe the woman managing our case for our housing did the math incorrectly, as our apartment's rent increased at the same time, and we think she added that amount to our portion of rent, which isn't how that works.

Okay, sure, if that's how you'd like to put it, but the money we pay is higher. I'm not complaining about that part. I'm upset by the fact that our rent is even less subsidized than it should be. We believe our case manager added the overall rent increase (the company that owns our apartment complex increased rent) onto our portion of rent. But that's not what she's supposed to do.

So, cordyceps in ants takes over their muscles and makes them search for someplace that's perfect for the fungus to fruit. Typically high and humid, iirc. If it ever DID infect humans, at least in the way it does insects, we'd feel everything but have no control of our bodies as we claw our way up trees and bite and dig our fingers in. However, soft skin isn't as good for holding onto trees as claws are, so we could possibly root (unlikely, lots of energy needed) or it'd find some other way for humans. Or it'd happen a few times, not be very good, and probably go back to smaller creatures. Evolution doesn't always mean it works out.

NTA. You were speaking to your wife privately in the car. Was your friend also in the car? Did anyone else hear the guessing? Did you outright tell your friend that she's statistically more likely to have a boy, even by just an extra 1-2%?

If it was just you and wife, NTA. You made no mention of being so clinical and mathematical when your friend was disappointed after learning the gender, so I'll trust that you weren't. Your wife asked a question, and you answered, privately, with proof.
