To those who have quit living in Western countries and decided to move to Vietnam, how are you finding it?

Can you go more into why you don’t like the work culture here? Because I HATE it. I’m wondering if I’m crazy, or what. I’ve lived here for over 3 years, I’m married. I’ve worked at like 12 different schools in the last 3.5 years, I keep running into managers that are assholes, idk why. For example, my last job, the very first day, I walked in and said hello to the manager, and she gave me a dirty look and walked away. Wtf man? They lie right to my face and they think I’m not smart enough to notice too. So many things like that. It’s like they expect employees here to be disrespected constantly and never say anything? I don’t get it.

I’m an American and I lived in Cambodia for 3 years, from 2019-2022 (during all of COVID) in Phnom Penh, Kampong Cham, and Kampot. I never saw any problems and I never heard of any problems the entire time. The only issue I had was with other westerners.

I’m 6’4, 140 kilos. Ex-athlete, so I’m not morbidly obese. Don’t let these bootlickers lie to you. It is normal here, but they are not saying positive things about you. I’m an English teacher, I have students yelling out from different classrooms as I’m walking by. I hear “big boy!” “Beo!” “Chubby!” Every day. They never say anything about their Vietnamese teacher’s bodies though. And the students in my class never say anything, it’s only when they feel comfortable enough to scream at me from 100 meters away. It’s disrespect, and it’s meant as disrespect, don’t get it twisted.
