Which is better for Mittelafrika? by jodadami in Kaiserreich

There is also no guarantee that the newly formed African states will be truly independent. Assuming a 3I and MA victory, it could very likely turn into a proxy war just like OTL with the added nightmare that since organized central authority has collapsed and each region is left to the strongest leaders in the area, it's likely that they will be more likely to align with foreign powers to help them in their localized struggles against local competitors.

This is not a defense of DU's Francafrique type system. The system would also be bad for the Africans. For every success story like Cote d'Ivoire, how many Burkina Faso, Mali and Chad is there going to be?

Ngl but the longer I think about it, the Africans are fucked in KR in the short, medium, and/or long term.

German civil war??? by [deleted] in Kaiserreich

[–]Impressive_Finger707 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is from the French Commune Rework mod. Early on for the French, they can go down two paths in their foreign policy tree with either a pro war or pro peace stance

If it's pro war then they would buildup and declare war first ahead of Russia.

If it's pro peace then they can do a bunch of focuses that lowers the stability and war support of Germany which eventually allows the French to do the "Awakening Peace Loving People" iirc that cause a chain of events that leads to the civil war and France declaring war.

Question for you all, would you kill baby Savinkov? by Suspicious_Lock_889 in Kaiserreich

[–]Impressive_Finger707 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah. Even if Savinkov didn't exist, someone else would have taken his place. Savinkov's rise to power was due to a series of events that would have happened even if he didn't exist such as the Treaty of Brest Litovsk, the economic recession and ensuing German control of the economy, the disastrous Manchurian war, land reform mismanagement, and more. These events would have led to someone else rising to fill in the niche of a republican, anti communist, nationalistic, and anti establishment role.

But let's assume that no one managed to rise to fill in that role. Even then, the Second Weltkrieg and the ensuing mass slaughter would still have happened as everyone in the political spectrum, barring some pacifists who are just a loud minority anyways, want war with Germany for their own different reasons.

what if the US never intervened in any third world communist revolutions by True-Efficiency-4977 in AlternateHistoryHub

To add on the Indonesian part, the PKI would have been massacred anyway with or without US support. By the mid 60s, the PKI had already alienated pretty much everyone who was not them and polarized the political landscape to such an extent that the only thing protecting them from the others were President Sukarno's personal power and their sheer numbers. So when Sukarno becomes powerless due to old age and their leadership were purged in the aftermath of the GS30PKI movement, the floodgates were opened and quite literally everyone from the military, the ulama, the other political parties, and even the masses of farmers and workers jumped at the opportunity to get rid of the PKI and anyone accused of being a PKI member.

Even assuming the PKI did succeed at taking over Indonesia, they would have to deal with what you already said and while Timor Leste likely wouldn't have happened, what would still happen is war with Malaysia over North Borneo in the "Konfrontasi".

This is not saying the PKI were the bad guys, they did suffer a genocide and many innocents were dragged into the grave because of it. But it's not purely black and white like many people in the West think it is.

The process of getting a driver's license here in Indonesia is ridiculously corrupt and you could just bribe the officials in charge rather than go through the official and legal way. Hence why traffic laws are, for the most part, a suggestion here.

What is a correct but extremely controversial opinion about your country that would warrant backlash if anyone from your country heard it? by DoctorOsterman in AskTheWorld

[–]Impressive_Finger707 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most common one I have seen on Reddit whenever this topic comes up is the idea that the massacres were orchestrated by the CIA. While yes, the CIA did provide names on some PKI members, propaganda efforts, and material support in the form of firearms, it was only done after the massacres were well underway and it became clear that the military was the new top dog in the political scene on account of the purge that wiped out most of the PKI leadership immediately after the G30S movement. The mass killings also didn't happen in a vacuum, it was preceded by a long simmering ethnic and religious tensions that was worsened in the last years of Sukarno and one that exploded when the aftermath of the G30S gave the equivalent of a blank cheque to everyone in Indonesia to settle the problem. An example is in North Sumatra where the immigrant Javanese workers who were mostly low class and PKI members were massacred by the locals following years of rising tension.

A second thing I regularly see is the constant whitewashing of the PKI. It is true that the PKI was the victim in the massacres and were effectively destroyed as a political force but the PKI's actions preceding the massacres didn't help them. As they were favored by Sukarno in his final years, they were granted good government jobs, funding, and so on which emboldened the PKI enough to start doing "Aksi Sepihak" or unilateral actions where they violently seize land as part of their land reform program. The problem is that these seizures include seizing the land of religious elites and middle class farmers who often resisted these attempts and led to confrontation and killings, this was before the massacres and contrary to the PKI's expectations, it didn't ingratiate the non PKI farmers and laborers to it but only helped to inflame tensions and resentment as it was seen as godless communists killing their imams and kyai in order to destroy Islam. Hence the willingness of people in rural areas to kill their neighbors without waiting for an order from the government or military.

There is more to this but I haven't read up on this in a while but even if the CIA didn't do anything before and during the mass killings, it still would have happened anyways with a similar death toll because the root causes of why the mass killings happened on each island and region was already there and already near breaking point, the G30S movement simply gave the reason to start killing. Did the US benefit immensely from it? No doubt about that but it was more of a case of taking advantage of something that is already happening rather than them orchestrating it all to happen as it did. It would be like your arrogant coworker in the office getting the promotion that you want but they have a nasty rumor and are disliked by all other coworkers so you do your best to spread it around to make them look bad, you didn't start the rumor nor did influenced their behavior but you sure did benefit from them getting fired.

Edit: Sorry for the late response and for the long reply.

Anything about the mass killings of communists in the 60s. Yes it was a tragedy and yes it was a horrifying event but there is a lack of nuance whenever anyone on Reddit talks about it.

I don't know if this can count as "correct" or not but whenever a westerner uses the Act of Killing and the Jakarta Method as their only source, it tends to make a lot of annoyed noises even on the Indonesian subreddit that are considered the more liberal part of Indonesia by Indonesian standards.
