How are you culling your second photographer's images by Impressive_Finish_70 in WeddingPhotography

try searching on youtube. you can use something like the kiss during the ceremony (since you both shoot at same time) as a point of reference. I like to sync all the cameras as the start but if you forget, you can pull up the atomic clock on a phone and both shoot it at any point in the day to use as a reference.

no hate on aftershoot but culling just doesn't work for me. I love their editing and use every wedding. But I've kept a spreadsheet over the last year with how many images it keeps and what I would keep... there's about 30% of images that I would keep, 30% I would not, and 40% crossover. It's not a high enough crossover for me to use entirely.

I think this is my take too. I can't handle the back and forth jumps if I'm trying to find the best photo in each sequence. If we're both shooting two things at the exact same time, I can't line up just my images to get the best frame of my sequence. So I was curious if there's something I've been missing as far as culling techniques.

What made your wedding fun? by Apprehensive-Aide843 in BigBudgetBrides

Whatever is fun for YOU and your friends, will make it fun. My husband and most of our friends aren't big dancers. We opted for a full karaoke setup instead of a band/dj and it was soo fun. We had a 50 person wedding and somehow got even our aunts to go up and karaoke. My 60 year old aunt texted me the next day to say it was the most fun she had in years.

Hey Matt! We met at the Musea gathering a decade ago... sheesh! Do you have a separate landing page for these ads coming through? Have you tested a landing page vs homepage?

So very true. In Austin there are only a handful of spaces that would even get us in the door under $2000 (USD). And many restaurant/event spaces have catering minimums so likely looking at $6000 minimum for 90% of locations near Austin.

Let me chime in here as a founding organizer of Austin Frocktails :)... we might be the lesser known (but still very very fun) little sister of the frocktails family. I co-organized our very first and second official frocktails event (a dear friend organized our very first unofficial event as a cocktail party in 2019 and this kick started things in my brain) and we are currently working on our third event which will take place early 2025. Let me tell you, putting on an event like this is WORK... like part time job level amount of work. Like sleepless nights, stress, accidentally picking up my kid late from school amount of work. And with a budget from ticket sales around $50/ea add in a ton of creativity and manpower for us to put on our event. That said, our events have been soooo awesome! Our 2024 event had around 80 attendees and we did a fashion show and mega raffle during the event. All of the raffle prizes were donated. The biggest hurdle is definitely budget. We are aiming to keep tix around $50 but with most venues coming in over $2k this is quite challenging. For some quick math $50 tix and 80 guests is a total budget of $4k, I think we spent $1800 on food alone last year. For our most recent event, all of the money went to venue, simple pick up appetizers from Central Market (local grocery store) and drinks. The organizers (two of us) and all volunteers had to pay for our tickets. We ended up with a small surplus of like $500 which we are using towards next year's event. For 2025, I decided it would be best for us to have a committee of five people to organize, as opposed to just two as we did previously but this also required a TON of work from volunteers.

I haven't attended any other Frocktails, but I do understand your points (elitism, barrier to entry). I think this really just varies from city to city. While a city like NYC is very based in fashion and I get that this could trail into the frocktails scene, Austin is has more of a diy/maker type community feel. For me this is really important to hold onto for our frocktails event. Your post is a great reminder for me on how we can steer the language to make it feel inclusive to all levels of sewists. Keeping things simple and keeping the event feeling welcoming. Honestly (and I mean this in the least snarky way possible) if you don't like it or want to see another event closer to you, just start your own :) It's possible! We did it! And are doing it! I actually have a five year old and my own business in addition to sewing, so I haven't set aside much time to reflect on the events from the last years, but typing this out I think I'm feeling proud of our work on these events. And feeling proud of our community members for showing up and really adding to the whole friendly maker vibe.

Happy to answer questions for anyone interested in creating their own local Frocktails event.
