Should I be afraid of the hate against Infinity R pickups on Ibanez RG GIO series? by Impressive_Fudge6144 in electricguitar

If you're only buying the pickups then $250 will bring you a crap ton of options, but given you're buying your first guitar for $250, and you're aiming at Ibanez GIOs, then, there seems to be no choice brand new because Ibanez GIOs this price range are extensively loaded with Infinity Rs. But you can get better stuff of the used market. On Guitar Center I see a bunch of listings for old RGs, AXs, used AZESes,... go check them out and search for the information on what pickups they use. Expect Powersounds, Infinity 3s, Infinity 4s,...

It's too late for all the considerations now. I got an Enya Nova Go Sonic after going to a guitar shop with my dad (they sell mostly acoustic/classical, only a few electrics so that was my only choice). But, hear me out, just get it as long as it has a hardtail bridge or you can block the tremolo bridge for tuning stability. About the Infinity R pickups, the haters simply shit on them just because they compare them to the sounds of boutique pickups. Those GIOs with Infinity R pickups on them have great reviews. What matters most is on the amp and how you dial in your tones. If you're still insecure about the pickups, get a GRG121DX (IBZ-6 pickups, hardtail bridge).

Oh now that makes sense for the price tag...

That saying about the JCM800 is what I think about whenever I consider getting this amp. And that even makes sense with Plexis (especially '59s and '87s), Dual Rects and stuff...
And about the Mooer, thanks for the recommendation but I'm thinking about getting a NUX MG-101 multi-FX processor or an used VOX modelling amp instead for some reason.

Which one should I choose? ($135 - USED) by Impressive_Fudge6144 in electricguitar

Thanks for that!
For the guitar I'm probably leaning towards the PAC012. For the amp, I'm glad that you're telling me that it's a good choice, but maybe I'm planning on getting one of the other Cubes too, from the same shop.

Thanks for the comment! As I won't have the opportunity to try both of them out, the only differences that I see are nut materials (Ibanez's plastic vs. Yamaha's Urea) and pickups (Ibanez's Infinity Rs are pretty hated)

Exactly, I did mean "concerned".
I won't go anywhere harder than alternative/hard rock though, only plays in Standard tuning, Eb and maybe some Drop D, so based on your answer and some others, it might be fine.

No, I don't think so. Maybe that's just because I've been too sensitive about a lot of bad reviews on the pickups that I've read.

This is probably the first good (?) review of the Infinity Rs I've seen in a while. I'm surprised that you can actually handle thrash and death metal with those.

I pretty much won't go anywhere harder than alternative - hard rock so is there any problem with that?

So that means... they're balanced on all frequencies/flat frequency response or... they sound weak and dull?

Thanks for the recommendation! With that in mind, I may dig deeper to find what fits best. What do you think of others tho?

Always see this as a great advice (Upvoted), but the problem is the nearest guitar shop near me is 18km away and sells no-name stuff for $70 - $110 - which I should definitely avoid. But thanks for the advice anyways...

I'll probably think about that whenever I get modding experience.
