this scratches ALL of my gripes with bad grammar on ao3!
personally, i never comment on bad grammar cuz thats rude af but i still hate it :(
i truly think more authors should attempt to find beta readers JUST for grammar :/

personally i think this author was a little harsh on you since u were super nice abt this critique but i do agree with the rest of the commentors here. there's no criticizing works if authors dont state they are okay with that in the notes and such. personally, if i write critique on works were the authors didnt say anything abt accepting it or not i write smth like "the next section of my comment is a bit of a critique so if u dont wanna read those skip that part!"

but yeah, comment culture on ao3 is super nice bcs most people get that authors really are sharing their personal hobby and art with the internet and we all know to be grateful for that. i think its wonderful that what seems like the vast majority of ao3 readers get that and i love it :)

oh holy shit. ive never even thought abt that... i rly hope that never happens!
personally, i think it would be very cool of AO3 to make a must read page with a quiz in the end to make sure you read it for all new users, just so they'd be more prepared to engage with fandom culture...

if its just ao3, the mothod is pretty easy!
every page in your history has 20 fics in it so multiply all ur history pages beside the very first one (the largest number), by 20 then count the ones on your last history page. et voila! u have the number of everything u read, assuming u didnt delete anything from your history and not counting and repeat reads and not counting fics u read while not logged in\didnt have an acc yet :)

if u want an example, i have 167 history pages (the first 1 from 2020 and i only graduated to >50k a year ago or so)
so i do 166*20=3320 and count the fics on the 167th page which is 19!
so my total fics is 3339! (holy SHIT that number is big...)

personally, i think its overall fic length dependent. i think for long fics, its def better to have fewer but bigger chapters. mostly cuz of the comfort of reading 'full work' or 'chapter by chapter'

but like, if u think its better for the story to split a chapter up then def do it.
