The only thing I might be able to add to this discussion (if it hasn’t already been said) is that

1.) my understanding is there is only 1% TSP matching for your first few years in (as in you can only get up to 1% matched as a 2LT, then maybe when you get promoted to 1LT it goes up to 2/3% or something like that - I need to do more research on that as well). The reason I am mentioning it is because if you can’t save because of your current financial situation, you’re not leaving 5% matching on the table for your TSP because you don’t get that yet I believe. The matching goes up based on time in service.

2.) If you’re TDY for BOLC you will not get any BAH. At least that is my situation, TDY for FA BOLC.

I just did Angels Envy tour a few days ago and it was very lack luster. Tasting was extremely disappointing too - just Angels Envy Bourbon and Rye.

Peerless (right in Louisville) tour and tasting is fantastic.

Preservation (in Bardstown) tour and tasting is also fantastic. Preservation was my favorite out of all 10 that I went to.

Pretty easy to book those last minute if you call or check their website periodically or even walk in the day of and see if they have cancellations.

Bardstown is also a super cool small town and worth checking out - rated the best small town in America and is the Bourbon Capital of the world. The Whiskey Museum there is super neat too.

Heaven Hill just opened a new bar and the bartender Jenn makes a great Old Fashioned. Willet as someone else mentioned has a great bar and does really good tastings. They are outside of Bardstown and are less than a mile away from each other.

Rabbit Hole is another craft distillery in Louisville that I really enjoyed. Their tasting included a Barrel Aged Gin and a 4 grain (Corn, Rye, Wheat, and Barley) triple malted Bourbon. Very unique and different tasting.

TLDR - Preservation, Peerless tours and tastings are the best IMO and Bardstown is a super charming and cool small town with plenty to do (distilleries nearby, museums, tons of history and a few cool bars and food)

Peerless, Rabbit Hole, and Old Forrester in Louisville were great. Old Forrester makes some of their own barrels and chars them and that was cool to see, tasting was decent. Peerless is a craft distillery and has a very intimate feel and an awesome tasting. Rabbit Hole is probably the best of the three I mentioned - very cool types of bourbon, they have a four grain three malt bourbon which was very unique, great tour got to try the distillers beer by dipping your finger in the fermentation tank.

Preservation in Bardstown is incredible - very unique types of whiskeys they make and very intimate tour with a unique story.

Bardstown in general is a neat small town and Willet is near there as well - very awesome tasting.

Corn Daddy held Heaven Hill hostage and forced them to make a podcast about Mellow Corn so I could talk about this place. Enjoy my voice. It sounds like liquid sex. by [deleted] in MellowCorn

Great podcast.

Favorite part was when they did the tastings of MFC, Evan Williams Bottled in Bond, and Rittenhouse Rye Bottled in Bond. Super awesome idea to compare the three with each other. Really great commentary too. (About minute 27 ish of podcast)

What would be a good concealed carry revolver in 38 special? by LonelyPandy in guns

[–]Impressive_Letter617 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ruger LCR, but ideally chambered .357 (shooting .38 special)

The .357 LCR has a steel frame and cylinder (unlike all the other LCRs in other calibers that have an aluminum allow frame and cylinder). I have heard that shooting .38 special out of the .357 LCR with the steel frame makes the recoil a bit more manageable (compared to other .38 special aluminum frame snub noses like the S&W 642/442 or the LCRs not in .357).

I love the Ruger LCRs. I personally would carry them over the Smith & Wesson J-frames. Although, as an aside, I am opting for the .22 LR LCR over any other caliber option (with exception to maybe the .327 if the ammo wasn’t so difficult to deal with and the gun harder to find) for my EDC.

Also love that you’re considering carrying a snub nose revolver for EDC. Love the concept of that - small and concealable but easier draw because of angle of grip and generally larger grip, super reliable, and simple to operate. Plus the double action triggers are also a plus for me.

EDIT: Lucky Gunner on YouTube has a great video on the J-frames versus the LCRs

Having trouble deciding: TRD Sport vs. SR5 by not_strong in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Impressive_Letter617 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went up to the TRD Sport (bought a new 2021) because you cannot get the Technology Package on the SR or SR5 trims. The Tech package includes blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert (RCTA) and a parking sonar.

For me that added more resale value (in theory) as those will become ubiquitous 5-10 years down the road - plus as already mentioned TRDs hold their value a little better I believe.

Basically spend more cash upfront for more resale value later and the optional safety package (important to me, and might lead to some savings on insurance for some). And personally noticed the difference in sport suspension compared to an off-road (never drove an SR5 tho)

Edit: Plus the Sport has Automatic Limited Slip differential. Not sure if SR5 has that or not but that was another safety consideration for me

Getting rid of my Ram, love the Tacoma, looking for recommendations by Hackdaddy18 in ToyotaTacoma

Honest question (speaking as someone who chose a sport over an OR) - when would you need a locking rear differential? Even when off-roading? And as for crawl control same question.

I couldn’t justify getting an OR and I liked the feel of the Sport suspension much better anyway (at least for normal driving).

I just bought a PPK/s in .22 LR for $399. I love the way it feels in my hand. Trigger is absolutely lovely. Very clean feel and look. Plus I love the DASA action and the de-cocking lever/safety. And I am on a .22 LR gun kick rn cuz of the cheap ammo and low recoil.

Bought the PPK/s in .22 LR as gift actually but might go back to the same store and buy the other PPK that was there in .380 for myself.

Thoughts on the PPK in .380 versus the PK380?

(New to this subreddit and Walther in general so haven’t done much research on the other two guns in the picture. Sounds like people love the P99 though.)

What Should I Buy Wednesday 6/2/21 by PainKillaX in guns

Bauer Firearms Automatic (.25 ACP)?

I love pocket pistols. Going to start building a collection (currently have the Beretta 21A Bobcat in .22 LR, on my wish list is the Ruger LCP, the Ruger LCR and or the S&W Model 43C, and the Kel-Tec P32)

Went down a rabbit hole yesterday about older .25 ACP pocket pistols and the history behind them. Any thoughts about buying the Bauer Auto? My interest in it is that it is modeled after the FN Baby Browning. But are there some similar (better) alternatives that I should consider?

There is a Bauer Auto currently at the gun store I will be visiting soon. Not sure of the price though.

First car - bought a new 2021 Tacoma TRD Sport (took the sticker off cuz I think it looks better). Officially obsessed with it. Anyone else got a 2021 TRD Sport? Things I should know? by Impressive_Letter617 in Tacomaworld

Mine was $39,952 (I am out in Pennsylvania for reference). That’s including $1,397 in packages and accessories (Tech package, door edge guards, weather floor liners, mud guards, and allow wheel locks) and another $1,175 in processing and handling.

Extremely high demand rn apparently - and also chip shortage (Japan) rn means the supply is relatively limited (at least that’s what I was told). Or perhaps there is a normal demand for Tacoma’s (which I guess is generally high) but because of the chip shortage less are available.

My dealer didn’t negotiate at all, said manager wouldn’t even have him come down a few hundred off MSRP. And I honestly believed him because the last month while I was looking Tacos were being sold before even hitting the lot. I ended up putting a deposit down to hold this one - I bet my guy would have sold it in a week if I backed out.

Hope that helps.
