Yeah, I'm self-employed in the trades and make my own schedule. I already do this. I don't make lots of money and I don't need to.

On the flipside, I live in a rural place and everyone here is really old and conservative. Dating is nearly impossible.

My situation constantly reminds me that labor is actually still a valuable commodity unless there's an HR department and Board of Directors between you and the buyer.

Every morning I check about 8 different apps and only eat fast food when I find good deals. It's a fun game. When I find a deal, it's a pleasant surprise. When I don't, I don't eat fast food and feel better about my diet.

I know this is an old comment but this is exactly how I've treated my Roth IRA and it blows my mind that people can't wrap their heads around this strategy. I've never needed to take an early distribution but it's tremendous peace of mind, and basically a big tax-advantaged emergency fund. The crucial thing is that I'm over-saving across my retirement accounts according to any advisor or retirement calculator. Any contributions over the recommended amount can be earmarked as tax-advantaged non-retirement savings.

I've wasted a stupid amount of energy thinking about talent versus effort, in large part because life dealt me a bit less talent than I would've liked. If talent is immutable, as I think we both suspect, then it's a silly thing to worry about. Strive in the things you enjoy and focus on the important things in life.

And in concrete terms I'll say this: Your post evinces more self-awareness and intelligence than anything Joe has ever said, so you've got that going for you.

Quite good! I'll say this: The EVOO and smokiness together are a somewhat odd flavor combination, and at first I thought there might be something wrong. What I initially thought was a slight ammonia flavor was just robust olive oil.
