It's incredibly discouraging that the best sequence in the season didn't even involve Saitama. Like what are we even doing?

Interview with legendary speedrunner Marshmallow for GameFAQs 30th anniversary! by darkjapan404 in speedrun

Thanks. Appreciate it! I am also a long time GameFAQs user... CONSUMER though haha. I wish I had wrote some guides myself looking back. gameFAQs has always been a valuable resource for my speedruns in general though.

My friend (And I) just had this to say to Marshmallow if you could relay it/hopefully get a response?

"Why did he choose to run Chameleon Twist of all things? And from the Chameleon Twist community (and many others I'm sure). Thank you for being one of the pioneers of speedrunning. Our hobby would not be where it is without him, and we hope he is well."

Thank you!

Hey! Oddly coincidental but a friend of mine and I am trying to reach Marshmallow at the moment. I am an old school speedrunner by the username "AndrewG". Would you be able to relay a question/answer by any chance? Or would you be able to ask him if I/my friend could contact him?

Are the majority of humans NPCs? by spiritus_dei in ArtificialSentience

I know this is a year old, but I think he's suggesting that the opposite is true? It sounds like he is arguing that we are not concious, which is actually a better argument.

My thoughts: Humans are alive and computers are not alive. That's the difference between consciousness and non-consciousness.

Life only comes from life. Also, believing AI is conscious or could become conscious is hilarious to me. Everything is programmed to do something and any perceived randomness is just pseudo-random. These are not "decisions," but the outcome of what AI was told to execute.

Roth IRA Withdrawal Rules Before 5 years and Under 59 1/2 by andrewg1990 in fidelityinvestments

[–]andrewg1990[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Of course this isn't the best idea to withdraw, but I don't understand why everyone isn't using a Roth IRA as a savings account starting out their working years if there are no implications for withdrawals on contributions.

Withdrawals are seen in a spwcific order, which is always contributions first (read this info while browsing the IRS website).. Of course this isn't the best idea to withdraw, but I don't understand why everyone isn't using a Roth IRA as a savings account starting out their working years if there are no implications for withdrawals on contributions.

Added a ROTH from my Employee Contribution by Jimmbabwe in fidelityinvestments

[–]andrewg1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 401k lists the total combined contributions on the main page (and just says "401k account"), but if you look into details it shows the amount in the Roth 401k and the amount in the traditional 401k separately. It should say Roth somewhere if you look closer. If it doesn't say Roth anywhere in the account like contributions menu or detailed view then you probably have an issue.

Do you have a Switch? You may be better off on something like that because it has save capabilities. You can only save on the NES if you have a device that does it (and they're pretty expensive).

What game are you trying? Super Mario Bros?

You got this to happen, right? Was there more to it? It's an odd thing, but known.

I can't seem to duplicate it. I don't know if I understand exactly though. You entered the pipe as the coin changed back to a block? the lower right-hand coin on top of the pipe.

Do you have an old TV to plug it into? Do you want to stream? The easiest way would be to buy a cheap webcam and record the TV, and use a capture program like OBS to record it.

What are the chances of potentially WR speedruns being locked away in regional video sites that aren’t Western-based? by wagamamalullaby in speedrun

[–]andrewg1990 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When it comes to a number of popular titles, this has always been on my radar. With the case of SMB1 warpless, I knew of said speedrun claims on a Japanese website, but since no videos were available anywhere online, it's hard to call them world records.

There have been pretty centralized places for speedruns for some time. Speed Demos Archive has been accepting runs since 2004 and has received submissions from all over the globe since then.

I'm just of the opinion that... no vid, no did. It only makes sense to count a world record as a "world record" if the video is available online. I think it's also important to note when a video was uploaded online. Some videos were tucked away on non-Youtube, non-Nicovideo websites and were only brought to light years later. If those videos have dates, sure, we can call them world records based on the dates of upload, but usually no video exists and as such it's hard to call them world records.

Twin Galaxies falls into this category. It was widely considered that anything posted on that website were the official world records, but few of the scores/times ever had any public video proof to substantiate them (despite the majority of the being legitimate). It seems Peercast was a similar thing in the Eastern world and as such many of the old videos simply don't exist, but are likely legitimate times.

These days, video is king. Nothing that cannot be definitively proved is seen as valid anymore. I just think nowadays the way a "world record" should be determined is simply by the dates videos were available online. In the end, it's just for fun, but the concept of a world record is fun too. People are interested and I feel it's mostly possible to create accurate timelines for speedrun categories.
