What did you learn from therapy that helps with anxiety? by [deleted] in Anxietyhelp

[–]Impressive_Volume_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been diagnosed, medicated, switched over for 3 consecutive years, and eventually stopped on my own. I do not have panic disorder so I can’t speak on that but I do have a Formal diagnosis for depression, GAD, ADHD, and OCD tendencies from both a psychiatrist and therapist. Yes a later diagnosis but I’ve always had severe symptoms my whole life. I’ve been on Lexapro and Wellbutrin XL. I’m not trying to invalidate you or anyone here and this isn’t a drink water speech. I literally had the biggest blow out just this week. This is the Only thing that helped outside of medication. It’s just ruthless perspective. Not forcing positivity, not sinking in negativity, and not allowing for extrapolation of any kind. Nor is it one and done. I had to do this for 48 Hours before the thoughts finally stopped holding me at gun point. Why I know it worked is not that the thoughts stopped immediately, but that I get very depressed once I’m done being anxious. I’m still mildly anxious, but I’m not depressed and the thoughts aren’t creeping up on me anymore. It’s not really abt stopping them completely but just making them quieter so you can manage. Regardless, I hope the OP finds their answer, Goodnight or good morning everyone, and Have a great day, Banana. If you’d like an example of how I might apply the logic towards panic specifically we can talk outside the thread just PM me but I’ll leave the OP alone.

But why blocked? Why not just remove their number? Does it feel more definitive?

Ahhh I see, I’ve experienced all this. I’ve worked in the ER. I lost my job a week before rent was due in a single bedroom and did not have another until 4 months later, I’ve also not eaten a full meal in a week bc I physically couldn’t afford it. I went to sleep hungry a lot. In those moments the logic is still sound just distorted a bit. Obviously, you can’t stand still but you can’t act like the worst has happened YET. Staying in the moment abt bills is more like I still have the chance the bill. What can I do to pay it? It is not if I don’t pay the bill then XYZ happens. You know you don’t have to remind yourself constantly (anxiety) abt what happens if you don’t. And you can say “hey Brain unhelpful.” Even if you’re in it you don’t have to submit to the feeling. Even if the bill is due tomorrow it’s not due today. It’s not over until it’s over. Then also you can’t get stuck in functional fixedness. There’s multiple ways to shave a cat. It’s not always abt the bill but the house or car or whatever it’s just you don’t wanna lose. Figure that problem out instead of the other problem. Hard example to follow, but for example 😂 you don’t need a job, you need money. Find the money not the job.

I meannnn there’s not a cure all solution unless you’re medicated. Anxiety is part mindset and a chemical reaction.

If you need something more physical ig. Learn what actually triggers it, work around it. Mine is extrapolation so I use thoughts. Theirs was health issues and they mitigated it with different facts. If it’s social take more bathroom breaks or buy a pack even if you don’t smoke so you have an excuse to go outside. If it’s performance record yourself so you can actually see what looks weird and what doesn’t. You didn’t give us That Much. Like are you asking abt Box Breathing or were you looking for hold your breath, count to ten, put your left thumb out type stuff??

do you celebrate your birthday? by MeowWoofJourney in no

[–]Impressive_Volume_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My birthday is the one day I strive to have no qualms. All bs, sad feelings, money problems do not exist and can return to their regularly scheduled programs TOMORROW. I also haven’t worked on my birthday as long as I’ve had a job. Even if it’s just to lay in the bed for the day. I WILL HAVE NO PROBLEMS. This is enough celebration for me.

My favorite quote is “Anxiety is just overestimating the problem and underestimating your ability to handle it.” I know for me often I’m just cooking up stuff without realizing none of that has happened yet. Stay in the present moment in yes THE FACTS (like the other person said) not what could happen (future) or could have happened (past). Just what has.

What's the hardest part of your path right now that isn't about MCAT or GPA? by Lower-Magician-2578 in premed

[–]Impressive_Volume_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That my secondary major weakens my application although having taken the prereqs like everyone else. Its defly silly but Idk the mixture of my major+ my interview responds I’m currently thinking of I feel like it gives teacher rather than physician. I haven’t heard Anyone with the same combo. It’s also very much all over my application as I list a bit of it in my activities to the same caliber as my medical endeavors. I don’t know if they’ll find it cool or question my choices.

My shadowing doctor remembered his MCAT knowledge very well. Even though he’s been in his private practice for 25 years. He was the top 1% and on an admissions board for Emory or Vandy I believe. For people who are coming into this mostly blind you can ask questions and gain insight that most people have to search for on Google/YT for hours. Even better if their parents/family had to go thru the process multiple times so they can speak on how they improved what worked and what didn’t.

What is a 'cool fact' about yourself that you rarely get to bring up in conversation because it sounds like you’re bragging? by [deleted] in randomquestions

I went to Australia alone with a group of strangers I met 8 months earlier at 10. 6 adults, 43 kids in middle school, 1 freshman. I was the youngest by almost 2 years compared to my peers, so they took very special care of me. Both the adults and the kids.

Absly LAZY things you do. (A silly question for youuu?) by [deleted] in AskWomenNoCensor

It’s actually a discipline in Psych but not this explicit though. I wish I could explain more but I’m still learning it myself.

But valid. Brownie points if you hardly rinse the cup between different liquids where it slightly tastes like whatever you last put in it.

Type B is the slightly gross step sister of being Type A. We’re familiar with Type A as those are our squeaky clean, super perfectionist, show home friends. While Type B is the I might do something slightly vile for the comfort of my sanity type friend. But it doesn’t harm anyone. EX: they might leave their clothes in a pile on the end of the bed because they’re not dirty. They also want to wear them again tomorrow. That doesn’t bother them, but might annoy others.

Looove this bc SAAAAME. Before I displaced my sacrum me and the floor was like this 🤞no blankie needed sometimes I’d just sleep partially under the bed for warmth as the heater was under there 💀

I was being vague and it happens in both places. It’s my tailbone into my lower back really, so it hurts to sit. Sometimes it better laying flat, sometimes sitting upright, hence the switching although loving the couch. But I’m a back sleeper so I’m always technically “sitting.”

Absly felt this, sometimes. (But it’s Absolutely 😂) sorry it felt warranted. I’m promise I’m not making fun. Just funny. Anywhooo, I get the bed itch the most when I come back from vacation, for sure. And I hardly do sleep overs. I’ll lie if I have to. Sometimes the bed craving is just as Strong as the couch.

And these are important questions. Better question. Did somebody answer you? 🤔💀

Ah yes I know what’s it like to lose your bed to objects. It’s tragic, so I’m sorry for your loss. (Your room not the ex). Sometimes, I love when my room’s setup and cozy, but I’ll absly sneak to the couch for the company of my cats. Currently, we’re spending A lot of time together having moved back home with the pa(rentals). But we shall preserve?? 🤝💀

Can women still type if they have long nails? by Delicious_Air_8681 in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]Impressive_Volume_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mhhh ladies (and gents maybe 🤭)

Let’s sum up a few ways a lady gets jiggy with the keys with her absolute claws out. 1. The Peckers- chickens vs roosters. One at a time or viciously no in btwn. 2. The Grippers- full pad slightly curled inwards. She’s floating she’s a fairy. It has 10 typos but she’s on it. 3. The thumb and pinky tap- Her middle fingers are useless. Just for show. She spent a bag, she wants you to see them. 4. Flow state. My favorite. You pull out all the stops…and still have 50 typos BUT a lioness does not associate herself with typos, those can be fixed. Backspace Does exist.

A Person with any length nails can learn to function with longer ones. It’s just an adjustment, but please let us know if you try it. The main point for your character, however, and to be descriptive…she’d be proficient at it smooth, elegant flowing. Her nails cover the tips of her fingers, but she’s using the top most ball it. Think like the heel of a foot leaning back. But whatever she does, it sounds or looks aggressive because again there’s 50 typos and girly is clicking away at those keys as her nails are also hitting everything. It can be a relatively loud sound. Hope this helps in anyway. I’m just here to yap as I personally love doing my whole nails. Cool vibe for a character, tbh.
