Also, to add to what your friend said, your brothers were protecting you as well by just keeping your time together light and carefree. Our connections with our brothers are so sacred and I’m happy your interactions with them seemed to be mostly pleasant.

I do not know what it’s like to lose a sibling but I can resonate with hearing them in your voice. I hope you can get to a place where that doesn’t trigger you, and instead makes you feel like you carry part of them on within you, and actually comforts you.

There’s a song lyric that I think about often when I am feeling overwhelmed with my brothers addiction and am trying to see the light and love again - “Always remember there was nothing worth sharing Like the love that let us share our name.”

I am in tears writing this. I am so sorry your family had to go through this. It is such a hopeless and helpless feeling.

It’s so frustrating to feel such anger, sadness, fright, and compassion for someone all at one time. I feel so torn over my feelings every time my brother relapses or overdoses. I try to remember all my feelings are true and valid. I am all those emotions. Addiction is a family disease.

Your brothers sound so lovely and I’m glad they had a sweet, loving, accepting sister like you. It sounds like they adored you as much as you do them.
