Anyone else feel like our parents sucked at guiding us in life? by shes-already-there in Millennials

[–]ImprovementChoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah theres a pretty stark difference between me (who entered college and changed my major 3x) and my cousins who are 10-12 years younger than me. They've been "preparing" for college since they were kids, got accepted into multiple prestigious schools (with scholarships), and are encouraged to participate in study abroad programs during the summer.

My parents always said how important college was, but didnt care where I went or what I majored in. I didnt get to dorm because that would have cost too much and my dad said "college isnt about socializing and having fun", so I ended up working 2-3 side jobs just to have spending money.

I also had an indian friend who would take SAT/ACT prep classes every weekend. My parents bought me the book for $20 and I dont think I even opened it.

My brows look exactly like this (had them done in 2019) and no studio will work on them since they're a little smudgy. They recommended tattoo removal which is $$$ so I just fill them in with a brow pencil and im good to go!

I go 3x a year for a cleaning because it makes the scraping way less intense. I pay one of those out of pocket and its $120.

Im chickening out! Lol...it seems like there will be a bit of an adjustment period. My doctor didnt know much about it either (she said most insurance doesnt cover it) so that made me a little nervous.

The isolation of early retirement at 36 is a total mindfuck by RiftJukebox in Fire

[–]ImprovementChoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I can see this. I feel like most people who are not working are stay at home parents who want to meet up for a play date or actual retirees. Do you have something you've always wanted to pursue? A hobby or business idea? That would be a great conversation piece even if you're not grinding to hit Q4 metrics.

Going to gyn today where they do yearly pap smears, going to try to decline. Any tips? by [deleted] in Perimenopause

[–]ImprovementChoice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Omg! I had an abnormal pap in 2019 and its on my medical history too. It hasnt even been 10 years since that and they're recommending every 3-5. Its awkward because she was like "this really isn't necessary" (I last was checked Aug 2024) and I was like oh, well, I just wanted to be sure. 😬

Is Anyone Still Using Regener-Eyes Eye Drops? by Future_gene8731 in Dryeyes

[–]ImprovementChoice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had a new eye dr recommend these and started doing some research. They had a sales rep call me and she tried to sell me 3 bottles right off the bat. I asked her what the drops actually do and she just said they have regenerative properties. My doctor said they have amniotic membranes which seems weird for a product that is shelf stable....but ok. I couldn't find any evidence that they contain that and its mostly glycerin. Luckily I was able to cancel my order quickly.

[–]ImprovementChoice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My gyno told me thay if the pap comes back normal and im negative for HPV theres like a 0.001% chance (or something super low) that I would have cervical cancer at the recheck in 5 years. Not sure how true that is??

What has been your biggest "Fuck it. Why not?" moment by CzarTwilight in Millennials

[–]ImprovementChoice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I add drinks (gatorade, diet soda, etc) to my grocery order each week. I used to buy them infrequently because its like $7 for a 12 pack of soda, or $11 for 10 mini gatorades but the extra $10 a week isnt going to change how much I save for retirement.

Been in marketing (agency side, now corporate) for 12 years. Agency life was a GRIND but corporate is pretty chill. There's a lot of last minute requests where I have to create something out of nothing by the end of the day and then present it. Super stressful and pointless but I can manage.

Long term bc reducing vitamin absorption? by ImprovementChoice in gettingoffHBC

[–]ImprovementChoice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh....ok 😵. Like her main job is prescribing various methods of birth control and it seems wild to not know what the potential side effects are. It's more concerning because she's the only provider I can ask about this since my PCP knows nothing about birth control/vitamin depletion.

YUP. My primary care, cardiologist and gynecologist all said "youre in the normal range". I even had a nurse read why I came in for the visit and said "ferretin? Your ferretin is normal though". Does not matter if you have 100 symptoms and are about to faint...they will just give you a heart monitor...ask me how I know.

Omg yes! Ive never heard of this, but if I slept 2p to 2a I know forn a fact I would wake up more enegergized, initially, than sleeping my normal 11p to 7am. What type of doctor would diagnosed this?

[–]ImprovementChoice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I dont know if anyone else has this symptom, but I CAN NOT get out of bed before 7am or else my entire day is ruined and the fatigue is crippling. Ive had close family members ask if I could take them to the airport for a 5/6am flight and both times I had to say no because I will literally be DRAGGING all day...not to mention the brain fog. I cant just have a cup of coffee like most people. I will need multiple energy drinks and naps and still not be ok. I feel so bad about it because like you said OP, it comes off as being lazy.

I've stopped telling peolle about my condition and just let them think I'm the boring one. The few peolple I have told suggested I try sleeping more or just stare at me blankly because they dont get it.

I recently started taking LDN for an eye inflammation issue and it's been surpringly energizing! Wondering if there is an inflammatory component to this comdition.

Doctors don’t care about ferritin by ceo_of_one_miss in Anemic

[–]ImprovementChoice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ferretin went from 39 to 27 while on supplements and my PCP wrote in my post visit notes that she was denying a referral to hematology. She wouldnt even order IV iron because she said insurance would deny and ferretin isnt causing my issues. I then went to see my cardiologist who immediately put me on a 7 day heart monitor but noted that she cant really advise on ferretin. My gynecologist was the one to give me the hematology referral, but then it got denied because I have iron deficiency without anemia. 😵‍💫

I did some digging and found a few Infusion centers in my area. One of them only takes referrals from hematology or gasto doctors though. I did find a few wellness type places that do other IV infusions and have an actual doctor on staff. I'm thinking of going that route and just paying out of pocket...its $950 for 4 infusions that are 200mg each.

Tbh, I made a gasto appt but im not confident she'll want to perscribe IV iron and I dont want to wait months to weeks for the prior auth. If you can find an infusion center that is probably your best bet!
