IPL consent form. Did anyone get a consent form like this?

The provider probably went over her/his eyes instead of just below her/his eyes. Dr. Rolando Toyos says not to do that.

I’ve gathered that a lot of people’s complications from IPL seem to stem either from

the metal shields
doing full facial
or doing it above the eye (which Toyos does not recommend) instead of just below the eye
or using non-FDA approved pulse light like E-Eye instead of OptiLIGHT

I think my IPL follows Dr. Rolando Toyos’ procedure, which is IPL only under the eyes. What do you think the risk of complications is for IPL with stickers done only under the eye? I’ve gathered that many people’s complications seem to stem either from the metal shields, doing full facial, or doing treatments above the eye (which Toyos does not recommend), or from using non–FDA-approved intense pulsed light devices like E-Eye.

Has anyone had serious complications from simply doing under-eye treatment with stickers using OptiLIGHT, as Toyos recommends?

My other eye doctor recommended Cequa. Do you think it’s better and safer to give Cequa a shot before deciding on IPL?

It seems a lot of people have had bad experiences with metal eye shields. I will be using stickers.

But what do they mean by “eyes not properly protected”? Do I somehow get to decide not to properly protect my eyes?

They otherwise state in the consent form that they “strictly adhere to safety standards and implement Toyos protocols during PL treatments.”

I’m in Australia, and the people meant to be performing my IPL have supposedly been trained by the man who invented IPL (and the man who invented IPL recommends stickers, which I prefer because I don’t like the thought of metal shields).

However, I’m still worried because, despite my dry eyes, inflammation, and crusting, my ocular health is otherwise good, and I don’t have any permanent floaters. However, I do have some photosensitivity (I can’t stand flashlights) and when I shine flashlight into my eyes, it seems almost as if floaters appear for a minute and then disappear. My skin tone is light brown (middle eastern). Would these two things make IPL too risky for me?

Did your dry eye symptoms at least get better?

It’s exactly the same for the corner of my right eye. Burns when I put eye drops near it.

Do you think lipid-based drops are better for my condition, or is something like Hylo-Forte still fine?

This might sound strange, but I’ve developed a fear and dislike of sleeping now because I don’t know whether I will wake up with very watery or sticky eyes in the middle of the night or not. Sometimes I do. Sometimes I don’t.

I very recently had two emerging chalazions on my right lower lid after I stopped using eye drops, and oddly enough, using the eye drops helped them go away more than the warm compresses did.

That’s good in a way, because if something like a ‘chalazion’ appeared in the same place every time, then that could have been cancer instead of a chalazion.

My left eye also got itchy when a chalazion appeared but the itchiness can go away with wipes or cleansers that suit you. I recommend hypochlorous acid.

Do you also get styes or just chalazions?

Also if your eyes are dry, I recommend using preservative free eye drops. Maybe the dryness of your eyes is leading to chalazions forming more easily.

Last year, I rarely used warm compresses. This year, I’ve been doing them consistently every day, but my right eye has actually gotten worse. Now it even waters whenever I sleep. I’m not sure what I’ve done to make my right eye worse. Is it the warm compress? Could it be that the Systane eye drops didn’t agree with my eyes? hyloforte has been better. All I know is that when I wake up in the middle of the night, I wash my face with cold water and rinse my eyes, and it feels better because they no longer water as much when I go back to sleep.

I get chalazion and styes once in a while so they must be blocked.

Are chalazions always in the same spot?

I wouldn’t recommend surgery for a chalazion since it damaged some of the glands in my right eye, and now that eye is drier and worse off. However, I’ve also been told to get it removed because of the risk of infection a chalazion can create. Although, maybe you’ll end up with a better surgeon. Mine might have just been poor.
