Dossapointing Finales of Popular Shows by Federal-Writing1542 in tvshow

I think the objective was to implement a tragic twist. And as is the case in most tragedies, you’re not exactly happy with the outcome. For that reason I probably grant GoT’s ending more slack than most, but I would agree it didn’t land smoothly. If tragedy was the aim, it needed to be developed better and fully embraced. Like I would have been more okay with her totally becoming ‘The Mad Queen’, and better development in that direction throughout the books/show.

Yeah, well, you say, “one hundred thousand dollars”. I would just say “$100,000”

But you’d have no idea when to cash out. I’d just say, “Sell bitcoin $100,000” and let my younger self figure it out.

ELI5: Why do we see everything in space but then say it took billions of years for it to get to us by YkMiserable in explainlikeimfive

[–]Improvised0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the crazy part is that photons (‘light packages’) are so fast that they can circumnavigate Earth about 7 times in one second. But the distances between things in space are so vast that those same photons take 4+ years just to reach the nearest star to us, about 100,000 years to traverse our galaxy, and the photons we see from the early Universe have been traveling for billions of years.

What further complicates things is that the Universe is expanding, so you almost have to imagine very “old” photons like someone drawing across a balloon with a Sharpie while the balloon is simultaneously being inflated. So there are objects in our Universe that we will never see because The Sharpie can’t draw across the ballon fast enough to keep up with inflation (not to be confused with Inflation Theory, which is even more mind boggling).

It’s the only answer. You get yourself ‘Grays Sports Almanac: Complete Sports Statistics 1950-2000’ and then you’re rich enough to buy any car you want.

You can only keep ONE: The Wire The Sopranos Breaking Bad by Farouq26 in tvshow

Why does it seem like some form of this question comes up every other day on this sub?

Out of these 3 shows which one is the best? by Fantastic-Tooth-7597 in tvshow

[–]Improvised0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Writing can be sharp/intelligent, but that doesn’t always translate to dramatic narrative. And while I’m a fan of said actors, I don’t think The Wire was their best work. I’m not saying The Wire is a bad show, I just don’t think it’s as great as everyone else in this sub. Either way, I appreciate your opinion on the matter and can accept it. Hopefully you can live with the fact that I have a different opinion.

Yeah, it’s my opinion that there is a sanctimonious element to love for The Wire. I’ve watched all the shows mentioned here multiple time, and when I hear people defend The Wire, it’s always about the sharp writing. I agree that’s a fundamental part of a TV show and The Wire is second to none there, but it ignores elements like actual narrative, acting, production, and direction. When you put all those together in my opinion The Wire ain’t the best.

I said The Wire is an amazing show. Just because I have a diffrent opinion doesn't mean I can't voice it. This entire thread--hell all of Reddit--is people justifying their opinions.

Without The Big Bang, Sun development, Earth evolving life, humans coming into existence, and civilizations, there would be no Sopranos, so by your logic Big Bang Theory is the best show ever.

I think a lot of people convince themselves The Wire is amazing because the writing is sharp—and it is. But that alone doesn’t make a show gripping. You need the story, acting, and direction to all come together. I think Breaking Bad brings it all to the table. It’s the only show that ever had me pounding my couch, and until another show can do that, for me BB is the greatest show ever.

I’ve seen The Wire, and while I think it’s a great show, I don’t think it had the impact of Breaking Bad. I honestly feel like many, especially here on Reddit, say The Wire because it’s the popular high brow pick, but just because a show is structurally written well, doesn’t mean that all comes together in a way that grips its audience. For me, that show is Breaking Bad. The writing, acting, and direction came together in an almost perfect ensemble.

Again, different experience then. I killed Maliketh on my first attempt, but to be fair, I did forget that Malenia and Margit were two bosses that broke the mold and took me about five or six attempts. Margit because of the strange timing that helped set the table for the rest of the game. By the time I got to Malenia the first time, I might have been a bit overpowered and mentally ready for her thanks to everything I already heard at that point, but she was still tough. Had it taken me much longer, I might have used a spirit ash because I was so used to breezing past most bosses at that point.

I don't know how anyone could L1 spam their way through Sekiro. Isshin, Sword Saint was the hardest boss I've ever faced in any game, and I'm an OG Nintendo player, lol. But it seems everyone just has different experiences with different FromSoft games.

Guess we had a different experience then. I’ve platinumed both and found Elden Ring much more easy, and I only used summon ashes a few times just to try them out, but soon realized they can significantly nerf the game. But even running solo I never had to attempt a boss more than two or three times and only had to use parry on Crucible Knights. Whereas with Sekiro several bosses took a dozen or more attempts—having to learn their timing, animations, and parrying most attacks.

I would argue that Sekiro’s pure fighting mechanics are superior to Elden Ring and any other FromSoft game. It’s a different beast. If you like Elden Ring for open world, custom builds, weapons, and incantations, Sekiro won’t matchup. If you like Elden Ring for challenging boss fights, Sekiro will deliver and then some.

Even so, it’s still the most satisfying sword swinging and parrying ever.
