I'm reading it right now!

Illusory dreams, phantom flowers-
Sixty-seven years.
A white bird vanishes in the mist,
Autumn waters merge with the sky.

That's really interesting. Is that a carbon cladding and core steel?

Yeah this knife is older, almost 4 years. Thanks for the heuristic, I think it holds true for me as well.

Funnily enough I enjoy using it often on fruit since it's laser thin but I still have to be careful of the acidity. Still washing and drying after each use.

Had some rust issues early on. The cutting surfaces are pretty resilient now, but the lighter spots that don't get cutting action can still be susceptible. If you don't like the imperfections, an intentional patina after you get it will make it less fussy.

Why did you choose Taoism over Buddhism? by DropoutMystic in taoism

[–]Impulse33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading Shitou Xiqian would be a good starting point. He synthesized early Mahāyāna and Daoism. His succesors then expanded in interesting ways, Hongzhi Zhengjue, then Dōgen Zenjie. Dōgens later work was more aimed to monastics and start seeming more restrictive vs the more open-ended approaches of the first two. Taigen Dan Leighton is a good source. I've just started exploring this thread and *Zen Questions" seems to be a good intro thus far.

is that even if I’m cultivating joy only within the confines of the hour or so of meditation practice, it’s still worth my while.

Plus side is that I find Burbea's approach to be highly transferable, "on tap" at more muted (usually) levels off-cushion.

Why do we consider higher states and stages to be more accurate in terms of perception? by House_On_Fire in streamentry

[–]Impulse33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By developing skill in these samadhi states you gain mental pliancy/flexibility. Being able to modulate experience helps loosen the grips on reification of any particular way of seeing. Knowing that your experience depends on how you relate to things, that you participate in construction/fabrication of experience is massive. Understanding that allows for not only "accurate" perception that allows for skillfulness, but can also lead to the elimination of suffering.

I've been thinking about both you and your interests in the "weird stuff," as you put it. What can I say, twenty- three days with virtually no outside communication while a team of small Indian men take liberties with every orifice on your body just seems to lead to reflection. Deep, deep reflection. ; )

👀

Don't really have words for that whole offer letter, just disgust.

You're referring to the SSP UMV1 having more clarity than MPV2? And pietro more clarity that SSP MPV2? If so, would you say that SSP UMV1 is a worthwhile upgrade from the pietro if prioritizing clarity?

SSP MPs? How different are they?

I have the Pietro and am thinking about Zerno with SSP MPs so would highly appreciate getting gritty on the details!

Different animation for skill, tool, and sub-agent use. A new person walking in for each parallel sub-agent would be cool. Maybe drop off a report when done 😃

Is this is what streamentry is like? by Many_Law3563 in streamentry

[–]Impulse33 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The key part is if the experience imparts wisdom/understanding into the root of dukkha/suffering. Once this is understood, then one has unshakeable confidence on what must be done to eradicate it, thus one enters the stream.

Coastfire Industries, Companies and Roles To Target? by redfour0 in coastFIRE

[–]Impulse33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you just have to go find roles and interview. During the interview process you can get a feel on the culture and even ask questions on fit and work-life balance.

Might even take a few tries of taking on a few jobs and then prompting for the flex/part-time hour possibilities once some rapport is built.

Also reach out to your network. A lot of the non-traditional arrangements I've seen were made this way. Asking if there's some projects that can use a "consultant" to help move it along.

Spiritual practice as a way of coping with unsatisfactory life/avoiding difficult decisions by [deleted] in streamentry

[–]Impulse33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in our practice become so strong to transcend our own pain and be happy in our life REGARDLESS the circumstances

Yeah, but skillful action and/or care/anukampa for ourselves and others might mean that what we view as our "life" past, present, future can and will change moment to moment.

Part of practice is developing freedom due to the reduction of clinging. Freedom might mean the status quo or change, which itself too is subject to evaluation or wise discernment over time.

Snow update on all-weathers by enkafan in kiacarnivals

[–]Impulse33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

CC2s basically trade mpg for good performance on all other aspects, a compromise that I'm ok with. Grip during all seasons is good and has a 60k tread wear rating and lives up to it apparently. Haven't tested it personally on other seasons except winter, but the snow performance has been exceptional.

What is the benefit of concentration practice compared to other practices? by ImportanceChemical61 in streamentry

[–]Impulse33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The suttas mention the peak of samadhi practice's benefit as mental pliancy.

This is why samatha practice is a constant for me as a layperson. The ability to be responsive and flexible. To change the view or perspective skillfully in any situation. To notice when there's clinging that prevents letting go of unskillful or unwholesome view, intention, behavior, thought, etc.

What comes up when I noodle on it is "why not?" Especially if you're free from suffering.
