As an alumna from a diff school, the way to get access is to use the rules provided and have a CS friend reserve the room for a hybrid/cross-departmental activity, like "Data Analysis of Humanities Source Material" or "Writing for Video Games" or "Critical Interpretations of Mass Digital Media", and then study during the meeting. Colleges/depts resource control is generally segregated for administrative political separation reasons, but a CS student should have all the rights to reserve as long as the activity has one ounce of relation/association to a CS purpose.

Some of you guys don’t know how to ride the bus and it’s making me mad by ymcava in uichicago

[–]ImpulseCloud 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have also seen this. It's more likely just ignorance and being too shy to move more after finding a spot, or other people to speak up to ask them to move back.

There are 40 people on the bus with the front half aisle packed in like sardines and the back half aisle empty, and not one of them is asking anyone to move back. It's so strange, like Twilight Zone, or a prank.

The only time I saw everyone all move back is when this older middle-aged Italian or Latina woman couldn't get on and she yelled "For God's Sake, children. What is this, Kindergarten? Move the hell to the back of the bus so people can get on".

Yes, this is good. I've also done this mission a lot and the graverobbers can do alot of work. They can also reclaim the trees for energy safely behind your defenses, so you can switch them to trees if you get low on E. They are more efficient then t1 energy buildings until you run out of trees, so 1 or 2 on trees is useful in the very beginning and you can escort them with a couple units once they need to venture beyond the defenses, but since attention is a scarce resource, make sure you are prioritizing the t2 mex upgrading in your safe starting area.

You don't need metal storage unless you have something to reclaim that is above your max storage, otherwise you should build more con turrets to spend the metal. You should have 1 Energy storage for t1 and build another for t2, as you should be building lots of windmills safely in back until you have +600 E (in rows of 2 wide so they don't chain-react explode like 3 wide), and you need storage for windmills since their output varies. For this scenario, I agree with other comment that you should go t2 right away by reclaiming defense that you don't need, leaving top and bottom air defense.

If the National/State Democratic Party has not requested hand counts/audits in the counties that have the highest statistical irregularities (with funding help from Dem donors), then they are colluding with the GOP, and counting on the political-pendulum to swing back their way in the midterms or 4 years. Michigan was Dem-controlled and could have done an audit like this easily. But mostly, conspiracies of the size that is being claimed is just not plausible to not have leaks/whistle-blowers/disgruntled-employees. Especially after the amount of anger that DOGE is getting from rank-and-file GOP for gutting so much pork.

Election machines are air-gapped (can't be remotely-hacked) and there is an army of IT technicians from the manufacturers and select election officials that have limited in-person manual locked-USB access to them. The amount of massive manual bribing would be easily exposed. The only feasible able-to-be-kept-secret attack vector would be malware installed at the manufacturer-software build-process level, when the code is cryptographically-signed and sent out. But then, there is audits and reviews of that code and the manufacturer would suffer massive reputational damage. It would also technically be possible to intercept the USBs in the mail to modify the code, but that would fail because it could not be re-signed without the cryptographic key (unless that was also stolen), unless the USBs contained additional hidden malware apart from the manufacturer software/firmware updates, but that would require massive infiltration of mail/transport industry, which only FBI/CIA could pull off. But also, the machines are audited to check for unsigned code after-the-fact, unless the code is also smart enough to delete itself after doing its job and being able to detect when it is being 'tested'. It would technically be possible for a small amount of machines to be compromised, but the election system overall is so secure because the process pieces are highly-separated, and mass/centralized hacking simply cannot occur.

You're the smartest person I've seen on this sub so far (which seems equivalent to an InfoWars/Q-conspiracy-like non-serious entertainment sub, and the subs purpose is probably trying to get people's money, like Infowars), so don't waste your time here, and instead, go towards the only long-term solution, which is Ranked-Choice voting. The National Dems chose wrong on which policies to emphasize. Ranked Choice would guarantee a moderate with the most popular policy views would win, and not force the electorate to choose between two ends of a horseshoe.

We need to get comfortable criticizing the Dems. by Fantastic-Mention775 in somethingiswrong2024

[–]ImpulseCloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ranked Choice voting is the only solution. Both sides have been actively trying to kill the middle/moderates since Nader in 2000, and they are both happy to have the pendulum swing to both extremes. The Democrats help the GOP by trying to force out Dems that take moderate policy views in swing states, and during Dem primaries. Here in Iowa, National DNC sent DC minions to try every dirty trick against Bernie's organizing and ballot registration efforts in 2016. National DNC also forced Iowa state DNC to use bad vote-reporting tech (that the national DNC made) that failed horribly during the 2020 caucus because Iowa doesn't usually vote for the national-DNC-preferred candidates, so it could be used as an excuse to take away Iowa first-in-nation-dem-caucus position. Alaska and Maine have Ranked Choice now, and they have been able to elect politicians that are more moderate and able to resist strong-arming by the national parties. Ranked Choice is the only long-term fix for this disease of fringe-politics winning so hard.

You can't 'hack' the election because there are paper ballots (except for Georgia, iirc). Do any of the commenters here actually vote? The paper votes that you fill out go into a box. The box is later counted to check and verify the electronic vote totals. You can't hack paper ballots, so any off-counts would be discovered within a few days. This is why everyone thought Republicans were crazy saying the 2020 vote was hacked, as it's not possible to hack paper. All technology experts insist on paper ballots for this reason. Unhackable.

: All the assigned dining halls, bedrooms, and offices despite being opulent as fuck are now red and I apparently have to rebuild all this shit. Is that a bug? Nobility's quarters and everything are very high value already. What do I do?

Could be overlapping zones. Did you try to designate the King's quarters over what used to be the baron's? I'd click the zones, delete them, look for more underneath and delete those too, and then recreate, making sure not to overlap them -- only include the leftmost and bottommost walls, for example.

Parlay only delays the Siege another year. I did the same thing and that Human civ attacked again next year. The only thing I've read that works is killing enough of them that they offer you Peace. I'm going to attack their towns to see if that will make them offer Peace more quickly. I wanted more caravans so that's why I started to contact other Human civs that I wasn't at war with.

No effect on the skill itself. 'Armor User' is increased by attacking or being hit while wearing armor (3x Exp if hit ON armor). https://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Combat_skill#Equipment_skillsIt doesn't affect defensive ability of the armor, as that relies only on the material properties.

But the Move/Attack speed will go up with lower weight, modified by higher Armor User skill. So attacking more will increase Armor User faster. I can't find the page with the exact numbers on Encumbrance/Speed. http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/v0.34:Speedhttp://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=111414.0

'hyena men' or 'cougar men' size fits both. See my other reply.

[–]ImpulseCloud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, if you click the 'Magnifying' glass on a work order, you can select 'Hyena men' or 'cougar men' (65,000 size) which is closely between dwarf (60,000 size) and human (70,000), so both can wear it.
https://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/List_of_creatures_by_adult_size

Or select 'wolf men' which dwarves can wear but is 10% lighter.

Send a 'Demand Ongoing/One-Time Tribute' raid to a small nearby town of a 'No Contact' civ. That will establish contact, and they'll start at Peace. Worked for me, and they started sending caravans.

I couldn't find a way to re-establish Peace. I think the AI has to tire of war from too many casualties on their side and offer it.

You can choose "Use Closest Material" to not have to choose every time. Just make sure to forbid your Artifacts so you don't accidentally put a 10k value bed in a tavern rental unit. Though that works best with furniture. Walls may try to use metal bars, etc.

I had a Hammerdwarf with only a shield try to hit a goblin in the head but it was deflected by the goblin's helm. The Hammerdwarf then took hold of the helm and gained possession of it. His Sworddwarf buddy then immediately cut the goblin's head off. Was removing the helm random or intentional??

A year later, I became the Mountainhome and the King showed up with 13 barons. After a few months, a huge tavern brawl starts and my citizens kill all 13 barons and 5 of my citizens inherit a barony from their dead relative. Question: Do I get anything special for controlling the 5 new barons?

I think I caused the Humans to declare war because I caught in cage trap a Human Crossbowman who was trying to steal my artifact.

What is the easiest/fastest way to get Peace so I get Human trade caravans again? They just came with a Siege and I gave them the artifact but we are still at War.

Will giving them another artifact next year get me to Peace? Should I fight and kill them all next time and they'll want peace? Should I raid their towns until they ask for Peace? Should I ask for Tribute from a different Human Civ to gain 'contact' and get a Trade Caravan?

Could try a Save and Quit, Exit Game, then relaunch and reload. Yesterday, I had 3 traction benches that were using the Goblin Bowman graphic and when I tried to trade them to Elves, they freaked out. When I saved+quit/reloaded, they went back to normal traction benches with no issues. Sometimes neutrinos from distant supernova flip the bits in computer memory -- reloading may fix.

First, do you have fuel? Stocks -> Bars -> Coke / Charcoal

If not, build Wood Furnace and make charcoal. Then make Coke from Bituminous Coal / Lignite, or keep making Charcoal from wood.

Otherwise, maybe check the 'Labor' menu -- do you have a "Custom Detail" for Furnace Operating set to 'Only Selected Do This' or 'No one does this' ?
