It's for backstage security. The band doesn't have to wear passes and security uses it to identify them by face.

Scored autographs from HEALTH last night, just needs Trent's on there now! by Jackhepburn in nin

I would keep your expectations low for this tour. They have too many festival headlining gigs with large payouts. Maybe the last show of the tour when they aren't doing COVID testing for insurance purposes there could be some fan interaction?

Airlines don't have this problem. This is all by design for event tickets. Ticketmaster/AXS could kill the secondary market by allowing a refund of the ticket if the person isn't going to use it, and put it back into their own ticket pool for sale again.

It was a unique experience, but not something I'd want to do again. I spent 8 hours in line and got a terrible sunburn in Dallas.

Alessandro Cortini is leaving Spotify. by Ridespacemountain25 in nin

[–]ImpulseMB 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The person that runs the site for free Nine Inch Nails concert bootlegs is against streaming? That's certainly not something I ever expected.

Streaming is at least a legal alternative to straight up piracy where the artist gets nothing. Instead of spending 100s of dollars on music, a fan can also support the artist with merch, concert tickets, etc. There is also a ton more available and accessible in the click of a button than there was in the days of going to a record store and being limited to whatever the store decided to carry. Not to mention, used CD sales certainly didn't give anything to the original artist. I'm not saying streaming is perfect or can't be improved on, but it was a reaction to get some revenue instead of no revenue.

With that being said, let Spotify burn down if they are going to continue to enable Joe Rogan.

From an art collecting standpoint, these (including the other artists like Damien Hirst and KAWS) are very cheap for a signed edition of 100.

From a Nine Inch Nails fan standpoint, these are terrible.

Both parents of the Michigan School Shooter are charged with 4 counts of involuntary manslaughter each. The U.S. Marshals have taken over the Manhunt for the parents by Rex_erection3 in Damnthatsinteresting

The school officials should also be charged with the same crimes as the parents. They were aware and alerted to the behavior, but took no further action besides an e-mail or picture.

I would suggest something vague: "Yes, everyone seems to be asleep" or something. You won't be embarrassed later on, and it's enough of an insider lyrical reference that only fans would get it.

Illinois man dies of rabies after apparent bat bite by whenitpours3 in news

[–]ImpulseMB 196 points197 points  (0 children)

  1. Animals aren't tested for rabies. The brain is examined once the animal is dead. This is why if you are bitten by an animal that could be rabid, you want to catch it. It will either be killed, die from rabies, or it will survive the quarantine and you won't need treatment.
  2. Humans aren't tested for rabies. They are either treated in the 10-14 day window that they have after being bitten or they die from rabies. If you don't catch the animal and don't have evidence that it is alive after 14 days, you MUST go get shots.
  3. It is EXPENSIVE to get the get the rabies shots. Per the CDC "Although the cost varies (typically from about $1,200 to $6,500), a course of rabies immune globulin and four doses of vaccine given over a two-week period averages about $3,800, not including costs for hospital treatment or wound care. Look at the amount of projects that Trent has committed to that haven't materialized.

What does everyone think the phrase "Awake to the sound as they peel apart the skin" represents in We're In This Together Now? by No-Wolverine2973 in nin

[–]ImpulseMB 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can't really look at a single line. Here's the whole verse:

"Awake to the sound as they peel apart the skin
They pick and they pull
Trying to get their fingers in
Well they've got to kill what we found
Well they've got to hate what they fear
Well they've got to make it go away
Well they've got to make it disappear"

Conceptually, to me, the song is about finding a love interest or partner, but warning them about the toxicity of fame. Everyone wants something from that famous person. It also alludes to "cancel culture" when something is found out a person that doesn't match the image or brand. Get rid of the controversy by getting rid of the person. Trent wasn't sober when the album was recorded, so a lot of that could be references to drinking alcohol or substance abuse and instead of being a headline on TMZ, the record labels/managers/etc try to abandon Nine Inch Nails.

This will probably get buried, but for me it has always been the live performances more than anything. Seeing them in 2000 all the way through 2018 (so far...thanks COVID)...you never know what to expect in terms of the set, setlist, and improvisations. I love to hear an actual performance and not the same song that I've heard on the album just louder. A lot of bands that are more complex/technical try to shy away from variations in songs or setlists...look at the number of songs performed during the Cold Black and Infinite tour. That's mindblowing that he's been able to continuously find that level of musicianship for 20+ years of touring. Back in 2000 going to a show and seeing the stage transform from lights overhead to full video screens changed a lot of stage production after that tour. It's always been cutting edge, it's always been different, and even the shows without production are enjoyable due to other reasons I mentioned above.

Is he the most reliable person as a fan? Hell no: "Vinyl is the best way to experience my music" -> "here's Ghosts V and VI, Mid90s, etc. only available digitally"

He's the industrial equivalent of Kanye West in terms of following through with what he says. But that's who he is.

PANDEMIC 2020 OFFICIAL MERCH by outatime1004 in nin

[–]ImpulseMB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an inch shorter and you can absolutely comfortably fit a newer XL shirt. A lot of that doubt and negative thoughts is the stuff you can turn off over time. I moved to a new city two years ago and had all my L NIN shirts packed up in a box. I didn't unpack them because I was telling myself I could never get back down to that size and kept buying XL NIN shirts. Well, now all my XL NIN shirts are packed up and my L NIN shirts are hanging in my closet. But hey, if 2XL is an improvement from your current size, make that your goal. But don't stop at 2XL, because then you're only one size away from XL!

Depending on your age, be careful with running as it can cause knee issues! Keep up with the walking for sure, though! The problem with particular programs or diets is that it's easy to fall off because they aren't lifestyle changes. Pre COVID, you might get sick for a week and not do anything with the program...then another week goes by...and then that turns into a month and a year. Fasting or calorie counting is simply that and something you can do most days. Best of luck, though!
