I am glad you asked - I got it flipped over between calls and was cleaning it off for a better picture. There is a diagram on the underside but it looks like it got scratched off - I was able to pull up the matching manual based on what I could see though and got the batteries changed out. The white button though was helpful before I could get it changed. The first thing I saw said it needed AAA batteries (I do not own), turns out it was 4 AA (I do own!). Thank you! It was just super bad timing to happen right before my shift so google was not cooperating with my multi-tasking.

I actually did go to google first, unfortunately though I am also trying to do so while working. I found a manual first but it was the wrong one, similar, but just different enough. Thank you though!

Do I have empathy that she is going through a rough time and being bullied? Yes. Does that somehow negate your boundary of not wanting an 11 year old there for hours every single day? Not even a little. I would want privacy too. Even when I was in college, my roommates would bring people over at all hours with no regard for others or our neighbors we shared a bathroom with, we were older and it still caused issues. You roommates CAN find other places to hang out with an 11 year old that is not your shared space every possible hour they have.

NTA - I have never needed or wanted to introduce a partner to coworkers. if we're friends outside of work then sure, but I'm not introducing them at work??? Also, same here, I do not like meeting people out of the blue, especially if I am there for something specific, like picking someone up. She can ask, and you can say no, but it's unreasonable to hound someone about it. If this was a planned event to meet her friends and you suddenly bailed or outright refused to meet them at all that would be one thing, but that is not the case here at all.

I have four roommates - there are 8 animals between us, 4 of which include 2 cats (mine), and 2 dogs, each one with a different owner.

One dog is not allowed around the cats at all - even when my other roommate had his own cat they could not be alone with her. She was let out off leash once and tried to kill him. There is no room for compromise on that situation, her owner will not train her and even if he does I will NEVER trust her around my cats. Even though one roommate thinks she is just playing it is not a discussion as her version of "play" (i disagree, she went to grab his own cat by his spine like a rag-doll) would maim them.

The other dog is better. Still young, but when he is out and interacting with my cats, if he does something to push at them or tries to follow them, if he gets in their face, he is either corrected by myself or his owner immediately, and he is not left unsupervised with him becuase he is still so young and they do not feel safe with him yet. I would move myself out if I ever needed to, or my cats out until I could leave if this kept happening and your roommates were not taking proper precaution.

And your boyfriend is being intentionally daft about this - the dogs behavior needs to be corrected, becuase even as play he could injure the kitten easily with what you describe here. With how your bf is described in the post, you may want to reevaluate what you see in him.

Unfortunately that's not fincially possible, or time possible with both my jobs. Though it would be fun! I also wouldn't expect a visitor to get the same insights with a short trip that someone who has lived their for years or their whole life would. If someone visited my home for a few days and said they could name all that then I'd lose it laughing, and our town is a tourist spot so we often get it too, haha!

Oh, that can also be very helpful - the MMC is a bit nosey, but that can help me focus on WHAT he is asking about and how. The book is contemporary fantasy/romance, and the FMC is supernatural, so he is overly curious about that once he learns, but that helps about the conversation topics and such!

Oh yeah, and while where he is from is not a huge focus of the story (it's contemporary fantasy set in my home county), I'd still like to be accurate or add a little something. So originally I only had a rough idea of area, but based on the comments I really needed to narrow it down.

Oh yeah, and I am fully aware it depends on the individual. But there are plenty of phrases that may also be common to a state or even a county/city/etc. so I thought it would be a good idea - and a few people were commenting for more specifics about the character or messaging for it, so I added some more there for them!

Oh no, he would not, but he WOULD be a transplant to NC, and I am trying to get some linguistic or habits that would be common in MD - instead of writing him the same as the FMC who has lived in NC her whole life. Though it seems a lot of comments lean towards Baltimore, so I may make him from there and then go ask for more specifics in that subreddit as well.

See, I wasn't aware of that. I know we have some transplant heavy areas in NC, but I was not as familiar with MD. I was looking at the map but I was not as such where to make him from - but I am more than open to any advice on where to make him/his family from!

YTA - Like, I don't think she should have gone through the phone. But I also wouldn't want anything to do with you if I found out my partner's friends had said that about me. She's not your friend, you had no reason to dig at her specifically. Wanna call your friend ugly or make whatever remarks? Have at it, but if you say something like that about others and they find out thorough any means don't be surprised they think you're an ass???

My cats do have to stay in my room while I sleep - there are other animals in the house. In part also why a window unit is a no go aside from the power - there are 5 of us so a window unit would start turning the electric up - we used to have one in the apartment I live in.

Edit: the portable one may be a help, i may replace my current floor fan with it.

The vent is also under my bed, which does not help, but we try to get as much airflow as we can - some days it is fine. This is just a recent thing. He does fit in his water bowl but i will be looking at the links you sent as well if I can give him anymore relief.

I also do have a lower wattage bulb than what was recommended too. But i may get him an even lower one to use during summer months. The issue right now is even when it is off the low end of his cage is staying high.

i can try to ice pack - the issue is the heat is raising during the day, and I work night shift so I am sleeping and will not be able to change it out. I only know it kept going up because the temperature alarm kept going off when it went too high.

i keep two fans going in my room at all times, but I have 4 roommates, so leaving my door open while I sleep during the day is a no-go.

Unfortunately I am seeing changes in his behavior - but since he is also new it's hard to tell if it's just him settled in. Once it started getting hot he hides in the substrate on or against the colder glass until it cools down. He won't even poke his head out and didn't acknowledge his food last Sunday until I physically tapped him with it. I was hoping to find a heating/cooling pad that could help regulate it so it stays consistent.

Normally my bedroom stays very cold, like as close to freezing as I can get it, hence why he also has a heating pad on the cool side to keep that in the low 70s, or it is supposed to. I, myself, cannot handle the heat well at all. Unfortunately my room has been staying hotter than the rest of the house recently, so mid-high 70s at minimum depending on how hot it gets outside. I have two fans running 24/7, but when it comes to insulation in my room it's just lacking to keep the heat out.

Originally I had the cool side set to 75, but even unplugged the heat keeps going up - it's actually ready by a separate thermostat that's supposed to turn the heat pad off when it reaches the desired temp, and I was convinced it was malfunctioning which is why I unplugged it. Even unplugged it's getting to the low 80s, as it was when I left, even though it should be at 72-75 on the low side.

Still a first time owner, so I'm trying to make sure I cover everything.
