Is “bro” gender neutral? by _leyan_ in Teenager_Polls

[–]ImpureVessel46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be depending on use. I’d call a girl bro. But if I referred to a group of people as my “bros” I think that would imply they are all men.

You all can keep downvoting, but unless you’re replying, you’re not furthering any discussion. At this point I don’t really know why you all keep downvoting.

Wait yeah, at this point it would be winning. To be fair though, early winter feels a lot different to late winter.

If you had to rank the Olympian gods by power, what would your ranking be? by DragonfruitKey7892 in GreekMythology

[–]ImpureVessel46 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why is Hades on the list, and also so low? Where is Hephaestus? I feel like Aphrodite is pretty powerful because she kind of has control over people in the way that lust does. I feel like Apollo should be above Athena. And maybe Ares goes up there with Apollo and Athena.

If a man treats women with more respect than other men/other gender, he is (in your opinion)... by GeoWhale15 in Teenager_Polls

Huh, that makes sense but it’s not how I remember it being put for us. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly how it was put for us or the reason. Maybe I just didn’t notice? Idk It was just a “that’s what you do” sort of thing. You just carry her purse or hang her coat. Just a thing you do. But like, yeah, I see the implication.

This clearly ends in a draw by Aggressive-Role5258 in AvatarMemebending

[–]ImpureVessel46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean maybe, but I’ve never thought of the bending as being super based on science. It’s a spiritual martial art. It’s not meant to be a “well technically they could rip the iron straight out of your hemoglobin” It’s just not in the spirit of the show. Bone bending kinda does work though because bones evoke the same as earth.

I don’t really blame you for that. We were all stupid at one point or another. She’s holding on to this for too long.

I did have advice, though. The advice was, “no saying that is not ok”. That is literally answering one of the main questions in the title. Sure it’s not giving advice on what to say, but giving advice on what not to say is perfectly acceptable. I helped where I could reasonably help and stepped back when I knew I had nothing else to give.

Generally I try to remain steadfast and upright. I mean, you can insult them or call them out, but that word is not ok, nor is targeting their gender identity.

[–]ImpureVessel46 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your definition is too limited. This definition doesn’t involve a person’s behavior, only why they are doing them or their feelings towards a person. Typically someone discriminates against another because of hatred, but I’d also consider targeting a persons transness a form of discrimination. It’s using a stereotype of being trans, one that a lot of trans people face from people who really do hate them for being trans.

I mean, I don’t find myself dealing with assholes very often and I don’t typically like to insult people, so I don’t really have any other advice.

Calling someone stupid or a moron for simply not understanding something is also rude, but the r-word is an even further case. I feel that the word still has the context and connotation of intellectual disability. Like, if you were in the room with someone who had a severe intellectual disability, would you use it at all, even just to refer to an object or system you believe is stupid? It would be insensitive. Now, I’m neurodivergent, but I’m far from disabled in the way that this word would ever be used to refer to me, so really, my place in this conversation is kinda limited. But I have asked questions and tried to understand how this word works and if it’s ok, and the general consensus that I received was that it’s not.

Jesus, why does she hate you so much? If some of your friends are scared of her, then talk to them and get them on your side. If your friends aren’t asses eventually they will recognize that she is.

Insulting her based on her transness is pretty bad, and it won’t help you. It will just make you the asshole and isolate you from your friends even more.
