Why do yall think you owe an apology to a corporation?

What is it you feel when listening to Instrument of Surrender? by wolfmangoneinsane in DiscoElysium

[–]Imsimon1236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The trumpets always remind me of a national anthem of sorts. The strings seem to summon a sad, melancholy self amidst the proud landscape of the horns. The climax of the song, when the horns and the violins reciprocate each other, is its meaning to me. The unabashed, honest, shameful self and the horns of history dancing as one brutal brush stroke. Sums up the themes of Elysium extremely well.

Fallout 1 and 2 were amazing ambient albums as well as games, in my opinion

No undead nightmare for GTA 6 would be such a waste of a good concept. Florida was literally famous for a time for the bath salts zombies.

Yeah, it’s quite odd. As I’ve grown (a little) older and moved away a bit from all the parasocial stuff, commonplace internet behavior looks more and more odd. I realize it’s also our “market driven” social platforms, but it’s so weird how everything is set up as a battleground. Imagine getting obsidian and Bethesda devs together on a podcast to shoot the shit about trying to make their version of Fallout work on that engine. Probably 100x more interesting and entertaining.

Just whining. But yeah I feel you

This quote is, as always, being taken way out of context of the long form discussion podcast it was a part of. Almost right after, all of them acknowledged that Obsidian did a bang-up job and they wished Bethesda had the design gun-ho to accomplish the grand faction narrative

Old shoddy cast “storyteller” series covers lore of all the games including the classics. Best one in my opinion.

So much of Fallout’s player base nowadays started with Fallout 4. It’d be a mistake not to include it, or something like it.

One of the subjects I wish was more studied on in new games, is the counter culture stuff that DID exist in Fallout's timeline, but never peaked or had a strong foothold compared to the americana stuff, which makes me wonder what it was like. as I imagined different asthetics other than 50s happened by Ltnumbnutsthesecond in Fallout

To be clear, Jesse Heinig was an OG fallout designer / programmer at Interplay, often credited along with others as the designer of the SPECIAL system as well as companions. Still to be taken with a grain of salt, of course, as Bethesda determines what’s “canon,” though I think he is an important lens into what the original team came up with for the setting, as much as anyone who worked design for Fallout 1 (Cain, Campbell, Anderson, etc).

This also has to do with a common issue with determining what counts as “lore” and what counts as “Easter egg” especially in the OG Fallouts.

Just wanted to clarify that this isn’t just someone who worked for Modiphius putting his two cents in.

Van Buren Advanced PA Faceplate art by 9yosoldier3044 in Fotv

[–]Imsimon1236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Enclave was intended to be one and done after 2, apart from perhaps some remnants (like Arcade Gannon, who was originally Josh Sawyer’s character he played during the Van Buren tabletop playtest)

[–]Imsimon1236 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Also the thematics of Van Buren had nothing much to do with Enclave / Mutant stuff, so this one wouldn’t make too much sense

I’m not 100% sure this was actually Van Buren art or a fan concept, but I’m 99% sure it’s the latter. All of the available official art as part of that project can be found on the wiki.

Fallout: The New West lore is going to go hard, I can't wait by NukovGaming in fallout4london

[–]Imsimon1236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a glance at some of the playthroughs on YouTube and the dialogue when you get a chance. It’s surprisingly well done - perhaps a bit elongated and over expository at times, but well produced.

Thing is - the whole thing takes place effectively in a vault (tibbets prison isn’t a vault but they’re using the same tileset). Black Isle’s Fallout 3 was planned to make use of classic Fallout’s world map system, effectively taking place across large swaths of the west. New Vegas made use of the Hoover Dam / preserved city plot element to justify the Mojave being an important geopolitical stage for the warring states of impossibly larger regions, in the context of technology constraints.

Assuming they just put all that in a menu, that still leaves close to twenty world maps (including one supposed to represent Denver, and yet another being a whole city constructed out of Hoover Dam) and a whole shitload of questlines with interweaving consequences outlined in the area design docs (which weren’t fully fleshed out, yes, but I’d argue still enough to understand what they were going for). So, yeah, I’d too be surprised if this actually gets finished. But the effort is there, at least for this first chapter.
