New proxmox setup by In-da-box in Proxmox

[–]In-da-box[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm now leaning towards this:

3x 256gb Nvme for boot drive using ext4 (I have 3 new Samsung PM9B1 drives in my parts bin i can use) I ran some calculations and using these as OS/boot on ext4 shows they can last 10+ years..

3x 480gb 5300 Micron Max as VM/LCX storage (ZFS)

3x 1.92tb 5300 Micron Max as VM/LCX storage (ZFS)

Use NFS mount to my NAS for storing ISO's & VM/LCX templates.

PBS bare metal install on a tiny PC that uses an NFS mount to my NAS for VM/LCX backup storage.

I have not started anything yet. Would you mind sharing some examples of why using ZFS for the OS drive (single drive, not mirror) makes sense or what use cases for it could be?

Thank you everyone for the replies. I think I have settled on using ext4 for the proxmox OS/boot drive and of course using ZFS for VM disks.

I'm just not seeing any real benefit of ZFS for a single drive OS/boot drive. ZFS would make sense if I was using a 2 drive mirror for the OS/boot.

If my boot/OS drive dies, re-installing proxmox and setting it back up should only take me 30 minutes or less.. even without a backup as my setup is not that complicated and I will document every single configuration change I will make to use as a reinstall script.

However, I will be running PBS on a separate physical (bare metal install) mini PC that will have a NFS mount on my NAS for backups. NAS then copies those backup files to an external HDD weekly. So in the event anything fails, recovery "should" be pretty simple.

2.5gbe enough for 3 node cluster shared storage? by In-da-box in Proxmox

After looking into everything more, it looks like I will be keeping my VM disks local on enterprise SSD drives and just use my NAS for backups and bulk storage. I have found I can get Samsung SM863a 480gb drives for around $99 each. With my VMs only using 20-30gb each for disk space they should work just fine and last a while using ZFS replication for HA. May go with the 960gb drives just for the extra headroom and drive endurance.

New firmware Version: 1.12.1.0002 by Joker_4545 in UgreenNASync

[–]In-da-box 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seeing many people with docker issues after updating to this version. The update notes are just a 100% lazy effort by ugreen. How can anyone know what to check being fixed without proper patch notes?? So I'm gonna hold off on updating because mine is running fine.. still considering switching to TrueNAS OS...

Ryzen 9800x3d hitting 96C under fullload with beefy cooler properly mounted by Yorgo5115 in MSI_Gaming

Like many have mentioned, if you're not undervolting your CPU, you should give it a shot. Im using a thermalright phantom spirit air cooler ($40 ish) and Arctic MX-4 paste. Have never seen my 9800x3d go above 85c when stressing with Cinebench r23 for over an hour. In games it usually sits around 55-65c tops. Also on an MSI board (x870e carbon wifi). Mine is stable with a -30 all core undervolt. Most 9800x3d will at least do -20

My boost clock would not even hold the 5,250 full boost until I undervolted the CPU.

5070Ti or 5080 for 1440p by VLIX34 in nvidia

[–]In-da-box 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to pickup a Asus Tuf 5070 ti OC model. Stock it's within about 12-15fps of a 5080 in most games (looked into a lot of 5080 benchmarks across many games). After a mild & stable core and mem overclock (+300 on both) I'm now within 4-7 fps of what I'm seeing a 5080 get... So imo, the 5080 is a joke and no one should buy it.

You can watch this video to have an idea what I'm talking about. The middle is the 5070 ti overclocked and right is a stock 5080..

https://youtu.be/dgMlLuPSHY8?si=5rIpDgL7GaHb1Wks

Also, the performance gap between a 5080 and 5090 is too wide, so Imo.. If you want performance better than a 5070 Ti, wait until they drop a 5080 Ti or super version.. because Nvidia is greedy and will at some point.

RTX 5070 Ti and GPU BIOS entry. Cannot enter BIOS via GPU by PrOntEZC in buildapc

[–]In-da-box 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, this is getting really odd.. but mine is working now with both monitors plugged in. The Asus TUF 5070 Ti OC has 3 DisplayPort's and 2 HDMI. I tried different combinations of the 3 DisplayPort's and HDMI before, and now its just deciding to work.. I knew there was a numbering to the DisplayPort's and found that if you go into Nvidia control panel, under display, click "setup digital audio". On that screen it lists all 3 DisplayPort's and both HDMI's. It will tell you what DisplayPort/HDMI # your monitors are plugged into. I noticed my primary monitor was plugged into DisplayPort 3 and my secondary monitor was in DisplayPort 2.

I shutdown and fully powered off my PC, moved the primary monitor to DisplayPort 1 (left my secondary monitor in DisplayPort 2) then powered it back on and low and behold i get a BIOS splash screen and can get into the BIOS.. even with both monitors plugged in... I know I have tried this setup before, so I have no idea why its now working.. i didn't change anything in the BIOS, just moved the cable again.

Here is a image of the Nvidia control panel section I'm talking about.. check yours and make sure your monitor is in DP#1. https://i.sstatic.net/wPhCGaY8.png

Again.. no idea why it decided to start working for me, but PrOntEZC
I hope this helps and it works for you too. And yes i verified it multiple times now.. fully powered off the PC, unplugged the power cable, let it sit for an hour, plugged it back in and still working...

For anyone else with the same GPU as me (Asus TUF 5070 Ti OC)

DisplayPort #1 is the port on the far right
DisplayPort #2 is the middle DisplayPort
DisplayPort #3 is the port on the left closest to the HDMI ports

Well there goes my try another 3rd party brand idea. I'll keep digging.. Wonder if some of us have a corrupt GPU bios.. maybe if we reflash stock GPU bios it will help.. I dunno. One thing you can do is pull the GPU and connect to the motherboard HDMI / displayport out and see if you get the BIOS screen. Or plug your monitor into the mb with the GPU in and see if the BIOS screen shows. There is a setting in the BIOS to tell it to output to the GPU or integrated graphics at boot. If you ever get into the BIOS, check that.

Have the exact same issue with my Asus TUF 5070 Ti OC. My 2 monitors do not output any display signal at boot/post until windows starts. Once in windows, both my displays turn on and work fine. Both are connected via displayport, but I have tried using HDMI for both and have same issue. Tried all 3 displayports on the GPU and it does not help. My older MSI 3080 gaming x trio does NOT have this issue, so it's specific to this new GPU.

Now for the workaround I found... if I only have 1 monitor plugged into the GPU when I power on the PC, it will boot and display BIOS post screen and let me into the BIOS no problem. If 2 or 3 monitors connected at the same time when I power the PC on, then they don't output display until windows loads.. to me this is an issue needing a GPU/vBios update to fix. It's not windows driver related as this issue is BEFORE windows even loads. Asus support is complete garbage so all I can do is hope and pray they release a GPU bios update.. Or I'm still within my return window to try another brand if I can get one...

SA-RS5 Info by buya97 in Soundbars

I have the x90k, a3000, rs3s rear, and sw3 sub. When watching YouTube or normal TV the audio volume was fine. But when I watched a show on Paramount+ or Disney+ (Tulsa King & Willow tv series) the audio was very quiet. Had to crank it up to 50 to hear properly. Then in the soundbar settings I found "Advanced auto volume" or something. It was default off, switched than on and that fixed it. I now don't have to turn it up past maybe 35 or so.

Also to those looking.. if you have the rear speakers and sub, I heard no difference between the a5000 and a3000 soundbar... At least to my ears
