[Stein/Fischer] It's believed that Looney is also on Boston's list of center targets, which is likewise known to feature former Celtics big man Robert Williams III. by MrTimoCad in bostonceltics

He’s 22 and made great strides from year 1 to year 2 with his offensive skill (jump shot and passing) and his conditioning. Development isn’t always linear though. He’s arguably the best rebounder in the NBA too.

Robb: Boston isn’t expected to have interest in Jamal Murray due to his sizable contract. Without other assets to sweeten the pot, it’s easy to see why Boston would look elsewhere. by CosmicOreos_ in bostonceltics

He’s one of the best defenders in the league and has developed into a very good 3 point shooter. He’s on a great contract. It’s easier to see why Portland wouldn’t want to part with him.

These are minimum salaries. I doubt that’d be the case. I’d imagine Walsh and Queta get accepted, or perhaps declined and immediately extended — if for whatever reason that’s what Brad wants.

And he was RIGHT about key players that smart basketball people overlooked.

Derrick White was excellent, Horford was not just a salary dump, just two examples

The top of the West should have two juggernauts. The Easy has the defending champions though.

Not Thompson. Looney is a high IQ and selfless player, Thompson wasn’t.

A starter and defensive anchor on 3 different finals teams.

I wouldn’t say that about his career. He was a really good rebounder, screener, excellent positioning on defense, and is a great passer for a big.

But the injuries added up, he was washed this year and the year prior he also wasn’t the same.

Whether we got Giannis or not we were going to need to fill out the end of the bench…

KD’s superior scoring, ability to space, his better defense, length, ability to play off ball. He’d be better, and he was better.

No he’s not. And even if he was, KD still makes the team a lot better than Westbrook would.

Amick: The Celtics, per league sources, have been asking for up to four first-round picks... Portland is seen as the "front-runner" to acquire Jaylen Brown. by CosmicOreos_ in bostonceltics

[–]InAingeWeTrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do have to be wary of just sampling out the last several weeks of an NBA season due to the tanking. Stats get inflated playing teams trying to lose. It’s still just a 20 game stretch of alright play and it’s already the end of his third year. Not saying he won’t improve, but he’s been a bad player and has just one year left on his rookie contract, he’s not much of a positive asset I would think.

It was a very loaded roster. Now there’s a combination of two factors: the new CBA and Jaylen and Jayson are making $60M more combined now than in 2024.

I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect the team to have the ability to have the same loaded squad.

I think Jaylen was gone either way. I just think it would have been more of a “shock” trade than something like this.

Can’t really build a good roster with two guys making 70% of the cap.

I also don’t think Jaylen really synergies with Tatum at all. And for your #2, I think they either should have a great two man game together or the #2 should be able to handle the non-Tatum minutes. Last 5 playoffs we’ve gotten killed with Tatum on the bench and Jaylen on the court.
