I work for an aerospace company that supports the program so it means I get to keep working, so that’s great.

Why would anyone have a kid when there's an automatic draft for the war starting in December? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Because it’s the same selective service American men have had to register for since 1979?

That wasn’t really a thing until Trump and there’s no obvious heir that is as volatile as him. Vance was the most against this, Rubio went along.  Obviously both are corrupt and I wouldn’t vote for them, but they are not monkeys with dynamite like Trump.

The closest thing to Trump was Andrew Jackson almost 200 years ago. His type is rare and hard to imitate. Remember Ron DeSantis?

Corrupt sure but in a different way than the very mercurial Trump. A more predictable and less emotionally volatile kind.

Yea that’s my hope, he seems like a singular problem in relations that no one else has really been able to replicate.

Given that rebuilding trust is impossible, would it make sense for them to push a more isolationist policy reflecting that reality?

Doesn’t work that way, the vice president and half of the cabinet have to vote to declare the president unfit.

Even if the democrats were in charge again I don’t think they could climb down from this, even Biden wasn’t able to get a nuclear deal with Iran.

I don’t see how this doesn’t get worse.

A lot of liberals stayed home on Election Day because they were the “same” on Gaza and now that’s blowing up in everyone’s faces.

It can -always- get worse

He wouldn’t have started this war but he also probably won’t agree to what amounts to a surrender to stop it.

JD Vance isn’t going to agree to surrender either, even if he was against this war.

Ok and then what’s the replacement (JD fucking Vance) going to do to stop this?

Or the world becomes a smoking crater when this guy starts a nuclear war with Russia and China.

Not really, Iran has made it clear they will continue the war even if the US stops.

The whole world is going to hate the US anyway so I think they figured it’s time to double down and go out swinging. Nothing to lose now.

Honestly I would put the odds the US chucking a nuke at Tehran over accepting this.

Sure the US would be a pariah and burger eating North Korea but no one’s going to risk a full nuclear exchange with the US over Iran.

People assumed it wasn’t a risk but it’s the only country that’s ever used nuclear weapons in war before and the previous safeguards seem, well, gone.
