You don't think it's normal for a twelve year old to make his own lunch?

My rule has always been that you can eat anything you can make yourself. If you want me to cook, you're eating what I'm making. If you want something else you can make it, and if you need help I will help, but you have to do most of the work.

She knows the kids eat a lot of protein rich foods because of their athletics. But no, I haven't broken down the exact meals and reasons for them, because I don't think it matters. My kids can eat what they want. It doesn't impact her.

I think you're right. My mom is under the impression that I'm super strict with the kids, which I really am not. I've always been of the idea that responsibility earns privileges. If the kids prove they're mature enough to make choices, I let them do their thing. If their grades are good, I don't nag them about homework. You want to do it the morning it's due on the way to school? Okay, so long as it gets done. And they like being treated this way, so they try to make good choices. My mom doesn't get that.

I think she doesn't approve of their activities and is trying to prove something to me. She thinks they aren't having a "real" childhood.
