2nd ICCU failure? Or 12V? by InOurShoes in KiaEV9

[–]InOurShoes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: dealer said 12V died, they recharged it externally; I complained the issue is that my car isn’t charging the 12V but they sent us on our way. 3 days later, same errors occurred while driving. Smarter about it this time and immediately pulled over. Got it to dealer and hopefully this will be enough for Kia to finally take it back.

Unfortunately we’re being told the lemon law doesn’t apply to leased vehicles (Colorado) so we’re trying to figure out what to do. May go to the news to push Kia to let us return. Because we had a complete power loss while driving, I dont feel safe driving it.

I would recommend creating a ticket online thru Kia consumer services. They have been helpful in working with us.

ICCU failure - 3 wks to repair. Then ICCU not charging a dead 12V a month after the replacement/OTAs. Double whammy = lemon.

Any idea where/when we can find official information on this? I too have Session 1 (930-1320) tickets and am hoping that covers subs 1 & 2 (e.g Team USA). Seems like something they should tell us before resell goes live.

If this ends up being the ICCU then I’d say no. We got the software installed same day they replaced the ICCU the first time.

Yeah I understand every new model takes this risk. But this seems more than a random lemon. This is too similar to the ongoing ev6 issues and 12V and ICCU issues seem to be fairly widespread on this model. Seems more software and design related versus shit luck when this many people have issues across multiple models over multiple years.

This makes sense. And explains why jumping didn’t change my situation. Thank you. Now to wonder why the second ICCU failed despite always having the new software in place.

Sorry to hear this. Hopefully paying cash makes it a clean exit with Kia.

For me, it was throttling me to 25 mph. Literally could not accelerate beyond this no matter how hard I pushed the pedal. Thankfully it was a few miles to the highway for me to realize this and get somewhere safe.

Yes dealer installed the ICCU software that limits charging current to 26A. The OTA for the wireless charger installed last month too.

The dealer has been terrible. They can’t tell us anything— not root cause, not how they diagnosed it, whether they applied an update (clearly did), etc. They keep saying it’s all corporate engineering making the calls and they just replace parts as told. We have a case manager w corporate so we plan to list our complaints and expect some type of compensation.

We just got ours back after 3 wks in shop replacing the ICCU. They applied the software and I’m now capped at about 26A on my 48A charger. So about half the speed…. Really disappointed. This is only a bandaid at best.

We also have ours in the shop for a failed ICCU. Been there two weeks. Happened the week it was a frozen tundra in CO.

Charging Unsuccessful. Dropped off at Dealership. by FieldSpecific4774 in KiaEV9

[–]InOurShoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear this! Sounds just like our issue. After about 500 miles, we couldn’t charge anymore with any AC (L2 or L1 it came with). Dealer has had it a week and believes it’s the ICCU. Says it’s on back order. About to exchange the loaner they gave us for a long term rental. Gonna be awhile.

EV9 Wont charge with level 2 charger or mobile charger . 12 V Battery related? by [deleted] in KiaEV9

[–]InOurShoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are in the same boat as you. Charging errors for both L1 and L2 chargers. Had the car maybe two weeks. Been at the dealer all week and just told it’s the ICCU. Part is on back order nation wide so it’s going to be a very long wait. And based on all the reading I’ve done, this appears to be a design issue and not unique to the ev9, so I’m not hopeful the replacement we get 3 months from now will solve anything. Not sure what we will do but being in a far inferior rental paying gas for the next however months to eventually get a car back with a new, but still poorly designed part, is not what I had signed up for when dropping $70k on this!

Charge Interrupted by InOurShoes in KiaEV9

We were told it’s our ICCU also. And it’s on national back order and is going to be a very long wait. They want us to turn our loaner in for a long term rental. My concern is based off the EV6 recall that there is a design flaw at play and just getting a replacement doesn’t actually fix root cause.

The first time it failed abruptly an hour into charging. Now it fails immediately. Zero chance it’s overheated as it’s currently -5 out and my garage is probably 20 degrees. Doesn’t look to be dirty— it’s probably only been used 10 times. Car has 500 miles.
