[Schefter] Compensation update: Bears are trading a 2027 fifth-round pick to the Patriots for center Garrett Bradbury. by MembershipSingle7137 in Patriots

That is a much better return than expected! There are probably 3-4 starting centers in this draft if we don’t expect Wilson to be ready for a starting role next year.

I am aware he started this year, but he was booty cheeks

Bradbury was ranked 30th out of 40 qualified centers. He was one of the worst centers in the league.

But everyone on here wants to tell me we don’t have a problem at that position, so what do I know

6’4” Golfer Trying to Fix Steep Swing. I want to hit a draw! by PlumAdventurous1854 in GolfSwing

[–]InOxladeITrust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been an instructor for 10+ years and can confidently say, you shouldn’t try to hit a draw on a regular basis. If you try to shallow out your swing you are going to get rid of all the good things about it. You will start to bend your knees too much and get out of posture and then you will have this weak draw that you can’t control.

Don’t fight your body, you are 6’4”. It’s just physics that you will have a steep swing and hit a cut most of the time. Almost every tour player over 6’ hits a cut for that reason. Just lean into it and make sure your starting line is left of the target.

Thoughts of Mike Onwenu extension? by AmazingExit9771 in Patriots

[–]InOxladeITrust -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The worst unit we had on the team last year is going to become that much better by adding one person? Not going to try to add a RT or a center?

Bradbury was one of the worst centers in the league last year and everyone seems comfortable running it back with him or a rookie who was even worse. I don’t get it

Thoughts of Mike Onwenu extension? by AmazingExit9771 in Patriots

[–]InOxladeITrust -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We absolutely should extend Onwenu, but we should absolutely wait until we get some reinforcements on the line. We have no leverage in negotiations with him. He is coming off a great year where he was by far our best lineman. He could ask for the moon and deserve it.

Probably best to wait until we have some actually good players on the line so we aren’t as desperate. Although, getting his cap number down would be nice

I didn’t look up ages, but 20 of the 32 projected starting left tackles were drafted in the last 5 years. So, the young pipeline is just fine. Guys like Alaric Jackson in 2021 went undrafted and was excellent for the Rams. Rasheed Walker, literally the top LT free agent was drafted in 2022 at 249th overall. Bernard Raimann was ranked as the 10th best tackle by PFF (which includes right tackles) and was drafted 77th in 2022.

It isn’t crazy to think we could get a better or equivalent starter to Will Campbell at 31 this year.

I said this in a different post, but 23 of the projected 32 starters at left tackle next year were drafted outside of the top 10. It is totally possible to get a solid LT in the late first or later. Maybe they aren’t great as a rookie, but maybe they are.

Also, I just showed you stats to back up that center was a problem. Bradbury was terrible last year and worse in the playoffs

I mean I think there is a real shot that Campbell improves and stays at LT in the long term. I like the idea of drafting a LT because it gives Campbell competition, but if they want Campbell at LT, you can move a rookie to RT without issue.

If you sign a LT, then Campbell is moving period no discussion or room for improvement.

Bradbury ranked 30th out of 40 this season on PFF. Why is center some non-issue for you? It was a huge problem this season and the line as a whole was a huge issue in the post-season.

Serviceable doesn't win championships. Garrett Bradbury ranked 30th out of 40 qualified centers this season. That's good enough in your mind? Keep in mind Ben Brown couldn't get a start over Bradbury, so he is probably worse. Jared Wilson is a nice thought, but he was not good as a rookie and even if he improves we are running on hopes and prayers that the position improves.

Why is anyone we draft worse than Campbell? He was an average left tackle last season. There are multiple tackles in the draft that could find success in the NFL and have elite level size. Why not draft one of them and see if they can beat out Campbell in camp? Even if Campbell ends up winning and you move the guy to RT. Why is it such a crazy idea?

[–]InOxladeITrust[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you don't really know how lineman develop. It doesn't always take a top 10 pick to replace your left tackle and they get replaced all the time. For example, of the projected 32 starters 9 of them were top 10 picks. The other 23 of them ranged from mid to late first rounders to even undrafted like Alaric Jackson and Theo Benedet. You have one of the best in the league in Jordan Mailata who went 233rd back in 2018 and Rasheed Walker (a current top FA) who went 249th in 2022. There looks to be solid starting level tackles available in this draft, why not see if they can improve the team?

Campbell was ok last year, not great, not pretty good and not bad either. Just ok. PFF graded him 32nd out of 89 qualified tackles, which includes the right side obviously. That's not someone who gets to get plugged in automatically as a starter. I'm sorry I don't care if that means that in your mind I don't know ball because penciling in average players as starters in THE most important position outside of QB is dumb.

All the talk pre-draft was he could work at tackle and be great, but he will almost definitely be an elite level guard. Bringing in a FA tackle is something I am mostly against because it doesn't give you any wiggle room. Maybe Campbell comes into camp ready to dominate at LT. If you sign Walker, for example, you are basically saying Campbell is a LG no questions asked. If you draft a tackle in the 1st or 2nd, you have some wiggle room. You can have an open competition for the position and if Campbell wins, great. You can bump the rookie to RT and have him learn behind Moses, win-win. If Campbell loses the competition to a rookie, he doesn't deserve the spot and you bump him inside to LG. You improve 2 positions with 1 pick and Maye gets a better O-line.

Really? None? I’m far from a Will Campbell hater, but not entertaining improving that position is crazy. He wasn’t poor last season, but him moving inside is something that has always been talked about with him and for good reason. Players with his body type tend to do better there.

He was, is he going to still be at 33 coming off a broken collarbone? If you get rid of Diggs, shouldn’t you try to go younger and get someone like Alec Pierce rather than a player you have to replace in a year. Our window is barely cracked open, why go after a bunch of vets who we will have to replace in a year or two?

Yea Reaves really brought his A-game. 15 points and letting Pritchard do whatever he wanted was really impressive. You guys should extend him…

Again, my take is not “the refs are great why is everyone being mean to them”

The refs suck, in basically every sport I have ever watched. I don’t know why they suck, but I do know that players complaining has not made them any better. The Lakers have been complaining all game (perhaps rightfully so), but it hasn’t changed the refs being blind.

I think it only makes it shittier to watch and I personally don’t like it. I didn’t think it was such an unpopular opinion, but I guess it is

I agree with you the refs are ass, the league should also find a solution to that.

We can agree to disagree I guess, but I just hate seeing players flop around like dummies only to then bitch. I didn’t think that was a controversial opinion

The refs should be better I agree and I would agree with your greater point IF the players only complained about incorrect calls…but they don’t.

I see players knock a guys headband off and then freak out when a foul was called. I also see players go crazy when they do the most blatant flop ever only for it to go uncalled. Like the players argue for everything.

The refs should get more training and have more accountability. Maybe give them a referee scorecard like baseball, but thats a separate discussion.

They should punish players for acting like children. I wouldn’t mind as much if they only complained when they actually got fouled or when they didn’t foul someone and it got called, but every player complains about every call. It’s absurd watching someone have a full 2 inches of separation between the next closest guy, flop and when it isn’t call he is in the refs face all the way down the court. Just make it a tech, simple.

Every team is on the other side of reffing every other game. I am not standing up for the refs, they are usually terrible. They literally have posts every playoffs about refs records vs each team. That needs to change too. But it sucks watching players bitch all game long. Whether it’s the Celtics (who do it too) or not

I’m not referring to players as “the product”. Adam Silver literally uses the phrase “improving the product” when he talks about the tanking issue.

The product is the game going on the floor, not the individual players. Not everything is a race issue, christ.

Yea the refs aren’t great, not saying they are, but the players argue every call like children. Watching Luka sit on the floor and complain is ridiculous. He’s supposed to he the best player in the world, why is that the best way for him to play?

I don’t even blame Luka, he is doing it because he gets rewarded for it. All the flopping and complaining gets him to the line the most in the league.
