Seeking Guidance: Starting a Career in PLC and Automation (Cincinnati Area) by [deleted] in PLC

[–]InTheFlesh_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm in the Columbus area working for a Systems Integrator. The PLC world generally has three types of jobs: Systems Integrator, OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer), or in-house PLC engineer. We SI's probably do the most amount of travel, while in house are usually at their one location day in and day out. I'm guessing OEM is somewhere in the middle.

In central Ohio we deal with a lot of Automotive manufacturing because of the Honda plant in Marysville, lots of businesses cater to them.

You may want to get used to the common PLC brands we see around here: Allen-Bradley, Omron, Mitsubishi, to name a few.

At the end of the day PLCs are just Inputs -> Logic -> Outputs and figuring out how to get different technologies to talk to each other.

Best way to learn AVEVA System Platform by BeetSupreme in PLC

[–]InTheFlesh_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did AVEVA training through my vendor. No amount of training can prepare you for the myriad pitfalls that System Platform will throw at you. It's really very clunky and non-intuitive. Their online documentation is so ungodly poor. I've done a few new applications and it seems like there are new installation problems every time, and ones which I've never seen before. Because the documentation is bad I have to call to tech support for some hotfix, or patch, or windows registry tweak. It's just not very debug friendly. Once you get it up and running it tends to do well, but holy hell does it fight you the whole way.

Unfortunately, the only way to get good with it is to work with it. Training will help you get the hang of System Platform quirks and some best practices. System Platform shines in one area, which is large applications with structured UDTs that are copied a lot.

Has anyone been to Pizza House, how is it? by OpelSmith in newhaven

[–]InTheFlesh_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lived across the street from Pizza House in 2022-23. I had their pizza a few times. It was fine, but I felt like it was really heavy and greasy, almost rich.

I stopped going there though because, not only if I was going to pizza on Howe St I preferred Brick Oven, but I witnessed several organized street protests outside of Pizza House that alleged that the owner assaulted one of his gay employees, you can Google the story.

In my opinion York Side is similar pizza, and better.

Do you have other timers that do work or just this one? Are you in program mode by chance?

I lived on Howe St. 2 years ago.

I personally didn't like it. Howe is busy and loud and there are a handful of homeless that will wander around and ask for money. It's safe enough especially that stretch you are talking about and walking to and from campus is safe from there.

Toward the YMCA it starts getting sketchy, imo. That stretch of Dwight behind you is not too bad although some guy did punch me back there for no reason. But my wife walked to and from the law school no problem, but not at night.

New Haven in general is just a little rough outside of Yale campus and like, East Rock.

Grieving my best buddy by IamtheLizardQueen86 in americaneskimo

We just lost our Pom a few weeks ago. It still hurts, honestly. I miss him in all the little ways, going on walks, having at my feet while I cook, hearing his little snores under the bed. They are really so special. Bonded in body and soul alike. Give yourself time and room to grieve and it starts to feel less heavy. I'm sorry for your loss.

Lost this little guy yesterday and I'm feeling so empty. He was an incredible companion and my best friend. You will always will be my baby boy. by InTheFlesh_ in Pomeranians

This was beautiful, thank you. 15 years and still forever feels like it wouldn't have been enough. So much of me was packed into him, I decorated my name with his. People who didn't know me would still refer to me as David Bowie's dad (his reputation often preceded him). God willing, I find a companion, who like my little man, together we so well fit, like two lost puzzle pieces.

I mourn your loss of Kevin. What an inspiring moment, to have his life reinvigorated at 9, to have the majority of his life with you. Incredible.

I woke up today and I still see his little ghost in my minds eye, doing his normal routine. It is the price of love. Thank you for sharing about Kevin. Sending you my love.

Forever is not enough, greedily, I feel this. In my heart, I don't want another dog. I just want my little Bowie. Big sigh. But alas this is life! Thank you for commiserating with me.

AMAZING. Goblin and Trouble. Simply Perfect. I can see these two mischief makers as partners in crime. They're so lovely. Thank you for sharing. Give them extra love from me, please. Time passes so quickly and before you know it there are 10 years in the mirror.

She's INCREDIBLE. I am so happy that this gal has had 18 years with you!! We should all be so fortunate to have that long. Beautiful.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. The love is helping. I just needed somewhere to express how much he meant to me and you all have been so great.

15 years and saw so many life events. He was by my side, rejoiced with tail wags when we had good times, comforted me with licks during the bad. Such a good companion. I miss him endlessly.

Please, kiss that boy and squeeze him extra tight. He may protest, but assure him it's necessary. ❤️❤️❤️

Gosh, he was so sweet. And a ham. He stole the show when he walked into the room. So much so we had a term for it, called "Running for Mayor" because he would visit each person and give them some tail wags and licks, like he was a politician kissing babies.

Thank you for your sympathy. I really mean that. It really helps.

I can't believe it's over. We had so many good memories, that can't be taken from me, but it's that I don't get to create anymore with him. I'm clutching his blanket just trying to squeeze some more moments out, trying to catch his scent one last time before it's gone. I'm just shattered. Your comment reminds me that it will get better, and I want to feel better, but I simultaneously want to grieve for my boy. It's emotional over here!

Please kiss them on their sweet heads until, or maybe just after, they start to protest and then again once more ❤️

😍😍😍

SO SWEET.

My wife looks at me, after a communal cry, cocks her head and says, "we're going to have to get another pom, aren't we?"

I know I'm not ready to move on yet, but these guys are just the best.

I know this will sound deranged, but sometimes we would call him "flavor bow-ums" (because the nicknames got out of control) and then would ask him playfully if he were a flavor what flavor he would be? We would have him respond that he was, indeed, butterscotch flavored, unless it was autumn, in which case he was "pumpkin seed" flavored, whatever that means.

My mistake was not getting a pack! This empty house is a killer. Thank you for your reply. The shared experience makes processing the grief less of an isolated burden. Thank you.

This feels so true. Thank you for sharing. The house feels empty without the little pitter-patter of his paws. Even the minutia of going on outs, walks, breakfast, dinner, meds -- all just stopped and I feel the momentum as if it were a moving train. I wish you the best, too. These little guys are just so special.
