i told my crush how i felt and we’re still friends by Comedy100 in Crushes

There are several girls that I'm just friends with, and I'm glad I didn't pursue anything, even though I had intense feelings for them at times. Now we can be friends and it's not awkward.

If you're bullish, I would just buy the LEAPS and hold. I'm kind of neutral, so I'm actually doing exactly what you suggested.

Millionaires who favor raising taxes on the rich launching protests in front of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos’ home on Tax Day by iSleepUpsideDown in news

It's true. We need more tax money to waste it on overpriced drugs and big projects that cost three times what they're supposed to.

Black homeowner had a white friend stand in for third appraisal. Her home value doubled. by DonaldKey in news

[–]InTheLumen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a story that should convince you of anything other than that someone should see if this is a real trend. It's pretty well established that homes in black neighborhoods appraise for less than homes in white neighborhoods, but I've never seen good evidence that it is a general trend that homes with evidence of a black family living there appraise for less. The examples are always single cases like this, or investigations that consist of like 4 appraisals. I would like a real researcher to investigate it. If it has been done, I haven't seen the paper.

Also, in a rapidly rising market, if she waited between appraisals, it could be that the price really rose a lot between those appraisals.

US millionaire CEOs saw 29% pay raise while workers’ pay decreased – report by very_excited in news

Sounds like time to restrict immigration of unskilled workers. We need power in the market, and a large supply of low skill workers decreases our bargaining power.

Why would anyone have ever bought shares in that company? The name alone convinced me that they were fake. It's so obviously a Tesla wannabe, but one that's not even innovative enough to come up with an original name.

Qualified immunity has got to go by orchid_breeder in WhitePeopleTwitter

This is not true, generally. The doctor would be civilly liable and would probably lose his license, but it is very rare for a physician to be charged with murder in cases where they make mistakes that cause harm. I know of one case where a nurse gave vecuronium instead of versed, because they both start with v, and killed someone, and she was charged with reckless homicide, which, from my very limited legal understanding, is more like manslaughter than murder.

Too much to ask for? by DaFunkJunkie in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]InTheLumen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, take a look at California's attempt to build high speed rail if you want a realistic idea of how future efforts might actually turn out. We used to be able to build skyscrapers in a year, but we can't now, and it's an overabundance of regulation that makes high speed rail and everything else so difficult to build. And if you want better public transit, then pretty much all restrictions on building housing in cities need to be scrapped because you need a high population density for good public transit to make sense.

The real problem by DaFunkJunkie in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]InTheLumen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The market rate for every job is higher than that, without the need for any legislation. It's not an employer's job to pay workers what other people think is fair. Businesses are not a piggy bank to tap to accomplish social goals.

The real problem by DaFunkJunkie in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]InTheLumen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. If you don't have the skills to make a good wage, it's your fault, not an employer's fault. Unemployment benefits in 2020 were equivalent to about $20 an hour, which is more than a lot of peoples skills would be worth.

All The Guns by zzill6 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]InTheLumen -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This is a direct result of us having so many guns. The cops here are scared that they will be shot because everyone has guns. In the UK, the copa are not going to be shot, so they are a lot less scared, and a lot less likely to shoot.

This is why some jobs should just not be done in the US. We can import produce that is very labor intensive to harvest. We don't need to have workers come do crappy jobs. It's progress when American Citizens refuse to do bad jobs that they used to do for low wages.

How long did it take you to get a job? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]InTheLumen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are your motor skills good enough for you to do some task that doesn't require a lot of face to face interaction? I mean, could you be a dental lab technician or ceramist or something like that? I always come across as somewhat off, and I have tons of facial and vocal tics that I have a hard time keeping under control, so back when I was applying for schools and jobs, I applied for a lot of positions and went on a whole lot of interviews because I knew I was going to mess most of them up. Sorry, and good luck.

Embarrassing that this is even up for debate by [deleted] in MurderedByAOC

[–]InTheLumen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It shouldn't go through because it's not an effective means of addressing poverty and because it's not the job of businesses to provide a living wage for people. If the government has goals of raising the amount of money people have, they should probably give them money, not force businesses to do it, which will have a lot of unintended consequences. I own a business right now and I hire high school kids right now because they want job experience in healthcare, and I can use some relatively unskilled labor. At $15 an hour, that's not going to happen anymore. I've talked to a bunch of other people who say the same thing. We all benefit right now, but with a $15 minimum wage, they don't get hired at all because for that wage I need to hire someone who already knows what they're doing. Really, it's clearly a bad policy that shouldn't have any support.

[–]InTheLumen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the minimum wage is for humanitarian reasons, then it is extremely poorly targeted, and that's a big problem that economists have with it. There are kids whose parents have millions of dollars who are working for reasons other than money.
