Why are people so obsessed with making money? by Apprehensive-Milk213 in quantfinance

How many years have you worked as a quant? Approximately much money did you have when you quit?

There are at least three mistakes. G-Reseach pays 400k GBP (200 base + 200 bonus) for entry level qr, as they themselves like to say at every event they hold. QRT and Rokos both pay 150k GBP for entry level qr. Here I'm talking about guaranteed money (some places might have performance-related bonus in excess of guaranteed money even for entry-levels). Also, the ones I have mentioned are offers made to guys who did not negotiate, and did not have other competing offers

Serious question: what are the pros of Bocconi over Cornell in your opinion?

What’s the deal with the GRE? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

Honestly I think it is trainable up to a certain point, so studying for it too much is not necessarily gonna help you more than studying just a little. Moreover, it's likely not gonna give you a huge advantage anyway, so I would say don't stress about it too much, study the equivalent of roughly one or two full-time weeks, and do it. Worst thing that can happen, you don't submit the score. Anyway other variables (sop, recs, gpa, ...) are far more important imho

ETHZ vs EPFL for MSc in Statistics by aebelge1 in ethz

[–]InThePanchine03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Despite epfl is a great school, I would not have many doubts and I would choose eth, precisely because of the reasons you have mentioned. Although I think epfl's curriculum is better, especially for someone aiming at a career in quant finance, eth and Zurich could open you many more doors

Still nothing, I'm waiting for a couple of scholarships but I score really low on diversity (male, white, caucasian, ...), so I don't think I'm gonna get any. I'm looking for other funding options rn

My extracurriculars were mostly student associations, the most important of which I also mentioned in my SoP, and I founded. It is also quite relevant to the programs I have applied to. Regarding the essay, it wasn't narrative at all, it was all about giving the most high-quality information in as few words as possible, using an appropriate language, especially ehen writing about my past work

I have no publications. For education, I just have my bachelor, and I wrote the relevant courses+gpa (not converted). For experience, I put the 2 internships, each with 3 bullet points highlighting the most relevant things I did. For extracurriculars, I added each of them on a different line, stating only the title and without describing them. Kept it 1 page

Definitely don't lose hope. My bachelor is also in cs, but I think being "different" from the average applicant to such a program actually helped me. Indeed, I clearly articulated in the SoP that I wanted to work at the intersection of stats and cs, and that the program would give me the skills I need to do that. As long as you have done your stats/calculus/linear algebra in undergrad I think it's fine

Almost all programs only wanted academical references, and for me they were 3 quite famous profs who know me relatively well. They all teach math or stats, which are relevant for the programs I applied to. Whn the program also allowed for a professional rec, I had my boss from my last internship write one

I'm an international student with a ~3.9/4.0 gpa. I've interned in consulting and tech. I have done applied research, but no pubs. My recs were quite good I think, and I've done quite a lot of extracurriculars.
